As things eventuate in their usual mid-season Freo way, I have adopted my usual mid-season Freo coping strategy. Fantasising that someone will do sensible stuff to make next year better.
(I) Schofield, Sumich or Waterhouse in for Lyon. Hell, get Malcolm Blight.
(II) Pay whatever it takes to get Lynch or Hogan or Buddy or double what Nine is paying Pav to get him back into our "forward line".
(III) Get lots of McGoverns but not at the expense of (II).
(IV) Draft the best key forward.
(V) Then draft another one.
(VI) Give Pearce, Johnson, Ballantyne an honourable send off this week (great club servants still trying their best, but it's past time).
(VII) Let Fyfe, Hills, Bennell, Wilson, Ryan, etc off the leash to take the game on and move the ball quickly. The defensive style was effective and exhilarating when it worked in 2012-2014. No doubt it was a good plan then. But self-evidently isn't now. What's the point doing it badly every week for the next two years?
(VIII) More $2 pies. Throw in an Atomic Pale Ale with the deal.
