The opening of the bridge has been delayed for....get this....bad weather.

Now, I'm not an expert in bridge construction or microclimates, but is there something about 25 degree sunny days that is especially challenging for bridge builders?

Perhaps I'm just being snarky because it complicates my pub review schedule.

Gee there's been some whinging on this board of late but this takes the cake. Positioning big lumps of steel into place in high winds is tricky business. And quite dangerous. Too many windy days means delays. Better that than damage to the structure or, worse still, the people working there.

You've just reminded me. On the train on the way to the Saints game a pair of ladies near me spotted the (partial) bridge and started discussing how difficult it will be to cross having to walk up and down so much.

Then they discussed how difficult it would be for disabled people to traverse... until they decided the height of the bridge must be for a cable car system for disabled people.

Then a bloke chipped in saying the height is so ships could get under it.

They happily accepted that explanation.

The thing is it is not just a bit late........it was supposed to be finished nearly a year ago and the cost has blown out from 50million to over 100million.

They awarded it to South Australian builder York civil in a joint venture with an Italian company that just totally stuffed it up. Instead of them fabricating the steel in WA they chose to go overseas to Asia which ended up falling in a heap.
It’s just really poor contract management by the builder.

50 million bucks could have bought a lot of free beer for the good patrons of Optus Stadium.
