We went to the Sydney game on the weekend - first ever venture to the SCG.
Great Stadium - We had seats in the Members Ladies Stand - a beautiful spot to watch the footy with old school standing room at the front of the stand.
The experience was as I expected - We had many chats throughout the night with staff and patrons.
Prob the best experience I have ever had as a visiting team which carried on into the Bus on the way home.
A few things I noticed..
1. Watching the ressies play before the 1s really should happen every week - I really enjoyed watching the last qtr of the reserves game.
2. A true night game is great to have dinner and a few quieties before the game. We start too early and need to push the AFL for double headers on a Friday night - One on the east coast, one on the west coast. Bugger the late Sunday games..
3. Swans fans get so excited singing the song and Sweet Caroline at quarter time...Its a great atmosphere.
4. Unreserved Seats are ok - first in best dressed.
5. Full Strength draught and craft beer was available the whole night
6. One thing I really noticed was the stress from the bench during the game and the coaches coming down each quarter - also, With a clear perspex dugout you can see everything from behind..We really are a rabble at the moment.
The Sydney coaching staff of Horse, Stevie J, Capt Kirk, Jon Blakey, Jeremy Laidler & Flapper Cox looked well on top of Rossco, Prior, Hale, Rock and a few other blokes I had no idea who they were..Ross was very cagy walking through the crowd.and took forever to address the players..
7. Why do we fail to do simple things like giving Buddy his left side late in the game in the pocket.creeping over the mark giving away a 50 metre penalty..missing easy goals...McVeigh makes the right decision 100% of the time and still looks quick..but hes not...It was dewy - Sydney Rookie list players keep their feet and yet we cant. Its not good enough.
8. Why cant we stick a tackle? GO THE HIPS!! Our best tackler by a mile is Brayshaw and he is 18 years old..
Anyway at least I left with a new footy experience and hope for a better result next time..
