TOPIC: The Tall Forward and his shadow...

So there's a theme running in here that Cam Mac is failing as a tall forward.

That theme usually runs somewhere hand in hand with the 'throw Fyfe forward' rant.

In a mildly spirited defense of Cam Mac, almost as spirited as say... well shoot, it beats putting the washing out, I'd like to point out the following surprising statistical analysis straight out of the guy smiley supercomputer.

Cam
McCarthy
Height
192 cm
Weight
92 kg

Nat
Fyfe
Height
190 cm
Weight
92 kg

Fyfe is 4 years older and Cam was born on April Fools' Day.

Cox is 193cm and 96kg, whereas Tabs is 199cm and 97kg.

So lay off with the McCarthyism, you Trotskyites.

Interesting... Jack Darling is 191cm and 95kg, but he's playing alongside Josh Kennedy who, at 196cm and 102kg offers that elusive, mystical beast known as a 2nd tall forward option.

McCarthy isn't a failure. I think he's quite a good player actually... he might not have Fyfe's tank and sheer ability in contact but he's got a mean as field kick, a good grab and he's a good set shot.

But failure.

He is also, this year, GS, not getting enough of the footy , and when he does, he misses crucial shots at goal.

What bits is he good at, possibly field kicking. The only game I have really been satisfied with him in was Gold Coast and the only game I have seen him hold his own in a physical contest.
I didn’t watch the game on the weekend but apparently missed from just outside goal square(must be fatigue). 36 goals 32 behinds since he joined us tells me he is no dead eye dick either.

Over their respective careers (so far) Pavlich kicked 700 goals 435 behinds. McCarthy has 72 goals 45 behinds. Any more eerie it'd be spooky but we already put a stop to the McCarthyism.

Now that you mention it GS, he is not that flash on his left boot either.

I don't usually look stats up, because, although I find them interesting, I think it's not that cool to be seen looking that kind of stuff up, but nevertheless I ventured deep into geek territory, and did a comparison of Darling and Mcarthy's first 48 odd games or so.
I came up with the following interesting statistical data that I think is quite pertinent in the scheme of things.

Darling is a head-jerking, arm-flapping, whiny little cry-baby who stacks his dacks in finals.

We would kill for Darling, late last year and this year he has gone from quite good to elite.

I always thought Tanner Smith looked like he could be anything - very unfortunate that injury wrecked his career. Apeness, Gumbleton, and now Tabs and Darcy, even Huge Dixon have all had serious injuries at a bad time. Ubergang is another who couldn't get himself right.

That's why we always seem to have this one-pronged attack, when it comes to tall forwards - players are never fit enough for long enough. Maybe Hamling can hold down a key defensive position, and throw Pearce up there, that young man looks like he can play anywhere.

We need a Kepler, he took a lot of pressure off Pav.

I won't rate Darling, unless he performs in finals.

How can you rate any of us then RM when we don't ever look like making the finals.

Here's a list of tall forwards we need to target:
Jesse Hogan (Melb)
Tom Lynch or 2 metre Peter his mate at GC (where is he?)
John Patton (GWS)
Patrick Cripps (6'5") who can play forward or mid.
J. McGovern (after he's won a premiership this year!!)
Any one of these would do me.
Keep Macca and Tabs.

Fyfe is a much better mark than most including Cam Mac. Every now and then a shorter type of champion CHF comes along.
