CA, my barometer of team cohesion and players enjoying the game, is the number of decent shepherds dished out. So far this year I have not had to take my shoes off to count them, (total for the season, not per game) That is a sign of dis-spiritedness.

Getting back to the original question of why are the slime performing so much better than us. Seems that the best we can come up with is that they have a much better forward line, their ass coach is the man who has turned them around, and the people in charge at Freo need to go.
Their have been comments made that ranging between Roly is the messiah to Roly must go. Then questions are asked that if he did go who would we get because there's nothing around.

When people in here throw their hands up and say 'but who else is there' in defense of RoLy they're simply not looking hard enough at the game in general. There are lesser names doing really well within the AFL coaching structure.

Coincidentally, it sounds like his contract with the Pies comes up at the same time as Roly's.

I've mentioned before that our coaching panel just does not stack up compared to other sides. Can you seriously see anyone of our ass coaches being approached by another team? The good ones we've had have left under different and at times acrimonious circumstances.

If push came to shove and a new coach was required I don't agree with the experienced coach like Choco Williams is needed. I don't think approaching an older coach who is out of the AFL system is the way to go. Didn't work for GC with Eade.

I'm for looking at sides like WC, NM, Pies or Demons who are doing better than expected this year with the same head coach. Why have they done better when their coach was under the pump for the team's poor efforts last year?

Mitchell and Longmuir have been mentioned and I do think Hodge is a natural, but perhaps too early for him. Oh, and of course, Kirk

I would grab Hodge in a heartbeat. A natural leader and tactician. He was The Hawks general with a football brain better than even Mitchell’s and excellent leadership and player management. Some guys need to grow into the job and some are born to it. Hodge is born to it. He would be excellent.

We need to find the next Chris Scott, and Hodge may be the chosen one, your point about sides improving for no reason under the same coach with much the same playing list is a good one. But it is no good employing them as assistant coaches, because we have seen assistant coaches with ideas get the boot from Lyon's coaches boxes. Sumich is another I would be talking to, he communicates with his players, and gets his message through. Don't worry about how he presents for press conferences, not many games are won there.
