I remember watching Pav from a pocket in Melbourne - I think at Etihad - and seeing him on several occasions being double teamed, but using his skill and strength to simply tie them both up, and then bring the ball to ground to the advantage of Walters and Ballantyne. He conceded the chance to mark in favour of controlling the delivery of the ball - - virtually rucking - he also went for the boundary an a couple of occasions, forcing a stoppage. Point is - he was a superstar, and he had the experience, and the security of his position, to concede personal stats and the glory of going for marks, in favour of playing a team based game where he nullified several opposition defenders and brought the smalls into play. But even that took incredible strength and skill.
This is the only thing that could make the Lyon forward set up look remotely functional. Who on our list has the capacity to do that now?
