TOPIC: Bright Side

Congrats on the anniversary CA.

Crowden might not have had his best night but he doesn’t take a backward step and is prepared to take on tackles and tacklers of any size. As I said last night, I can live with kids making mistakes but not the older blokes. If you can’t lead by example lead by way of mentoring the kids at training and down at Peel.

My two cents for what it's worth is that the kids are stuffed. They've played 8 hard tough games and they need a break. A Pearce looks very sore and needs a break, not sure about Hamling but is probably the same. Fyfe needs to rest that knee, he's sore too. I guess what i'm saying is that probably contributed to last night's performance. The problem is who to bring in to rest up these players!

If we played a more standard forward line, all those players could get a break down there while still contributing.

Don’t often agree with the AwFL website but their ‘Nine things we learned from round nine’ here (m.afl.com.au/news/2018-05-20/nine-things...rned-from-round-nine) pretty much gets it right IMHO.

We have absolutely no defensive pressure inside 50 and right now with B.Hill out - wouldn’t it be great to have Mayne our there? I’ll come back to McCarthy. When he doesn’t have ball in hand he doesn’t work hard enough. Throw a Strdanica or Apeness in with Cox and they can be a genuine target like Sandi was in the last qtr.

Pity Grey keeps pinging his hammy as he has shown a bit the times he has got a run. Tackles ferociously. Maybe Giro in for one of Cerra or Crowden if they need a rest? I’m prepared to give Ballas on more road trip but another effort like that and maybe a Hughes or dare I say it, a Shericliffe, gets a game instead? Something has to happen down there as all the good work of the backline and midfield is going to complete waste ATM.

Jason, you need to spend a game specifically watching what Ballas does.

Interesting to note that Crowden covered the most kms...14 odd for only 5 touches. Can't say he didn't have a crack. And top freo speed reached was also Crowden at 32.8 kmh. Still short of Hughes 36kmh reached last year.

Running 14kms for 5 touches isn’t something Crowden would be happy with. A lot of wasted effort by the sound of it.

Don't think pride is what we are looking at...but why is a young player running so far for so little impact.

Agree that Cox has lots of upside but can someone please get him some angry pills. If you watch him off the ball there isn't a lot of energy about him. Hopefully this will come with experience.

If you can see how outnumbered we are up forward, Crowden probably spent the whole night chasing McVeigh, Lloyd and co without really even getting close since they had it so easy. Play an extra forward on their spare players and he might have been rewarded for his hard running.

As it was, the Swans always had a spare player to pass to whenever one of the few forwards we had got anywhere near them. Hard to get a tackle or force a turn over in those circumstances.
Nathan: When did you get balls?
Simon: I've always had balls you've just never seen them.
Nathan: That's the gayest thing I've ever heard.

WTB, could we try getting Balla's to give him a smack behind the ear at the first bounce, then Ballas goes ballistic at the nearest opponent for whacking Cox. Seen it work in years gone by.
