It appears Crowden is getting done holding the ball far too many times and I'm not sure yet if it's a good or a bad thing. Clearly he has the ambition and belief he can beat a tackle and side step/push away the tackler but he doesn't seem capable just yet. I would initially think that's a good thing where with a bit of growth in both the body and footy awareness, he will have a huge advantage in making space and getting himself out of tight situations.

The worry is he is not reading the play and game too well and as a result is getting caught. I'd hope he is learning a great deal from these situations and how to move and react to being under a bit of pressure. If he is able to build on his sturdy frame and the way he needs to move with the footy, he could be an incredible weapon. I hope he isn;t asked to curtail that part of his game and continues to try and work his way around opponents.

Sometimes you just have to put 50+ games into young players before you know whether they are going to make it or not. Crowden is definitely one of those.

In one very late passage of play Crowden under extreme pressure whilst being tackled twice and circled by three Saints released two brilliant handballs to Fyfe. Brilliant.

Poor decisions when fatigue sets in. I think the younger blokes are showing plenty - Crowden, Langdon, Cerra, Ryan.

Leigh Matthews might want to wait til 50 before deciding, but I think it's obvious when someone has smarts, skills and confidence. I'm happy in crowden being a bit over confident. Shows he's not overwhelmed being there, and backs himself. Not easy things to teach. He'll improve with fitness and experience.

The Owl will be a great pick up. Did you see his kicks during the warm up. 50 m darts 10 feet above the ground. Still playing at SANFL pace but that passage after he had been caught twice and then he got those two handballs off to Fyfe pronto, shows he will adjust. Might take a season even. He needs to rotate his head thru 360 degrees more often so he is aware of traffic.
