the Forward line woes are all well documented, at least here on Dockerland. That was such a big mistake running in the Richmond game with just one key forward in Cammac. The fact that Cox played but played back was unbelievable, especially when once again the week before the same old same old happened this time not only McGovern but also Hurn mopping up repeated forays forward simply because we didnt have a tall to make them accountable.
The other thing that doesnt happen enough, on the rare occasions when we have two forwards actually in the forward line is having a crumber at their feet. This is footy 101 I would have thought. On the even rarer occasions when we have two forwards and crumbers we actually do alright. Fancy that.
Just ruminating here but it occurred to me as Luke Ryan marked strongly went back and drilled a long beautiful punt shot for goal from out side 50m (Ok it narrowly missed), that he has every attribute for a dangerous midsize forward. He can mark, kick accurately, fast, strong and good decision maker. Its just that we have plenty of defenders coming through the ranks and a dearth of forwards. I know how well hes going in the back line but defenders are a dime a dozen, sort of like midfielders. This guy can play and if it was me, I would reverse the Roly mantra and put my aces up forward, not down back. Will never happen.
