Put McCarthy in a structure where he plays the game from the goalsquare and leads at the footy and he might find some form. You CANNOT consistently hit targets upfield who are leading away from you. We proved this conclusively again tonight. All our forwards are up on the wing/half back area, clogging that up and taking away the space for our speedsters to lead into, then when we do get the ball, we can't instinctively kick down field to a target, because that target is either in lime green or an opposition jumper.
We would have been smashed by most other teams in the comp playing the way we did tonight. AT 7 goals up early in the third quarter, we had the opportunity to go for broke and run the Saints into the ground, but no we went defensive and allowed them back into the game. AGAIN we tried to defend a lead instead of building on it.
