In all the reports flying around Roly's coaching record was mentioned. I was wondering how that sat with others so thought others might be interested.
Winning %
Scott-70.1
Pyke-69.6
Longmire-67.2
Simpson-63
Clarkson-62.5
Beveridge-60.3
Lyon-58.7
Hinkley-56.1

Do the same for their respective finals records. Clarkson shows his worth, and Scott is found out.

Historically speaking, coaching Geelong to one premiership is the equivalent of coaching Hawthorn to half a dozen.

If the only factor contributing to a teams fortunes is the coach then this is a good statistical analysis. If you aren't including critical variables and you aren't, well, it's total crap. Anyone with half a clue about statistics would tear it to shreds. I doubt the sports writers at the West would try this on.

And if we want to go further with this kind of let's-invent-reality approach, how about:

Neesham 36.36%
Drum 24.53%
Allan 18.18%
Connolly 51.94%
Harvey 40.21%
Lyon 56.38%

If Lyon is bad, I have just proved there were a bunch of absolute hopeless losers before him.

Even if the coaches we had in the past were all losers (which I don’t agree is the case) it doesn’t serve as reasoning to confirm that Lyon is brilliant.

Using the argument that being better than a bunch of crap people makes you automatically the best person for the job is kind of stupid.

I'd have Neesham back in a heartbeat. Created a team from a rag tag bunch of players who never got the concessions that the Slime did.
The AFL realised that there was the need for another team in W.A. but they were worried that they had created a monster with Meth Coast and we were never going to get the concessions that they did.
Still he nearly got us to a final in his first season as a coach.
Legend.

Neesham as a Football Manager?

All the power of Bond, with a load more footy brains, a load more player management skills, a load more integrity, and a load more coach management skills.

Neesham has done great work with young indigenous sports people. He had am afl list which, no disrespect intended, gws and gold coast would have laughed at. He did ok and was bold and creative. Not sure any coach today would choose a coaching job under those circumstances.

I think that's really harsh on Bond, Raglan. I think Chris Bond has a great deal of integrity, whilst his cautious nature holds him back at times I think you'd find him holding things together down there at present.

And yes Neesham would be great as a player welfare manager - been saying it for ten years.

My comments on his footy admin integrity are based on Bond being the common denominator of our last 23 years, as player and admin. I wonder where his votes went in the Johnno, Simpson, Yarran and Jeff Farmer hearings at admin level? And before you all jump up and down and ask why I am just using those 4 examples, I am taking them as the sample of a point of difference between what Neeshams' approach to them would be compared to Bond.

I also see him every week having a lot to say on the bench. Based on my observations on their respective careers, I would prefer Neesham in THAT role. I don't think he has a cautious nature, Hypen, I think he has an ultra conservative nature, and may be playing a role in the way the team plays at the moment, and may have had a role in the signing of Lyon based on Bonds footy strategics.

As to his moral integrity, I can not comment on that but given he has survived so long without a whisper in this town, that must be OK

I reckon Neesham is doing more good where he is.

Pavlich was pretty glowing in his endorsement of Bond in his book. He’s done some good things but that extension to Lyon is looking like an albatross at the moment.

Pavlich was glowing in his praise of Lyon as a good bloke too. He also said that while NN intended to hurt Amon with his tackle he should not have been suspended.

In his CH7 role as special comments man, he also agrees with the no man forward line and thinks that the umpires adjudicate the holding the ball/illegal disposal law fairly.

That is enough for me to question his judgement on Bond.
