Veterans’ Allowance
The previous Veterans’ List allowance has been replaced with clubs now granted a salary cap allowance for players with 10 completed years or more with the club.
There is no longer an age requirement of 30 years.
The amount of the allowance has been calculated as a fixed percentage of Total Player Payments (TPP) per player based on the average amount of football payments excluded from the TPP for players on the Veterans’ List for seasons 2007-09, divided by the average number of players with 10 or more years’ service at one club during that period.
The fixed percentage has been set at 1.229 per cent and the allowance per player in 2013 is $112,320.
So people want to talk about the Chook McGovern fitting into Freo. Currently Freo's backline has A Pearce, Hamling, Wilson and Ryan locked in for a decade as a unit. You've got a gaping hole up forward to fill but you seriously want to entertain the notion of spending up large to get Key Defender McGovern. Because yeah.
Why not.
My money says McGovern will happily and complacently sign up with WCE at season's end because he's more than happy there and putting off talks is a common ploy with some players who just don't want to be bothered. They'll try and get his brother there as well.
We're so much better off chasing down forward line options that to say it's not funny isn't funny.
