TOPIC: Dylan Roberton

According to the AFL website, including video from the man himself, Dylan is unlikely to play for the rest of the season, following his mystery onfield collapse a few weeks ago. He's been fitted with a heart monitor for three months and can only do light training for the time being.
Hope it gets sorted — to his credit he's become a first 22 player for the Demons.

UPDATE : oops, meant the Saints..... really.

Actually St Kilda...and in AA 40 man squad last year. A real good player.

The Deaf Cheats traded him to the Demons because of his dodgy ticker?

Hard to believe we couldn’t sort out a trade deal when he requested a move back home and we ended up delisting him and get nothing in return.

If he was only squeezing into Melbournes best 22 I wouldn't be as sorry to lose him. Reality is he would be a first choice at the saints and has AA potential written all over him
All the best dyl

We didnt delist him. he finished his contract, wouldnt sign a new one and simply walked out with no guarantees.
We couldnt get a trade done because nobody wanted him.
Saints got him for a steal as a delisted free agent..similar to the Barlow and GC interest I reckon..
I wish him all the best in the future and hopefully he makes a 100% recovery but lets remember he walked out on Freo with no appreciation for getting him into the system and becoming a first 22 player in a pretty good team in 2010.
If theres one player we should boo - its him

Okay, but he doesn't seem the booable type.

Sometimes young men who have been transplanted to the other side of the country just want to go home. Roberton was pick 49 (one pick before the fourth round) who had played solid but not elite footy for Freo. I'm sure we were keen to keep him but he wanted to go home and no-one wanted to shell out for him. At that point his value wouldn't have been particularly high.

He went home, the Saints took a chance on him and played really well (albeit on some pretty average teams). Good on him. I hope he gets back on the field next year.

If you want to turn it into an editorial statement about Freo, perhaps you could mention that he was an excellent pick taken at 49. Dead set, check out the spuds taken after him.

He moved back to Victoria because of important family reasons.

His partner fell pregnant when he was in his early 20's. He took the risk of walking out and was lucky enough to get picked up by a club close to his parents
Anyone who thinks it's appropriate to boo him for that lacks serious empathy

agree about Jeff White Suker, I recall some wag in the crowd holding up a phone as Melb ran onto the ground in his first game back saying - Jeff - Mummys on the phone for you...
One thing I will grant him however is he always maintained he wanted Freo to get a trade done for him and us to get some compensation.
He could have walked into the PSD but did the right thing by the club that recruited him at pick 1..

Make all the excuses you want about Dylan - he knew he was going to get picked up and took off as quick as he could with no regard for the club that recruited him at pick 49..another Phil Smart gem

Is that a fact demo? Did he really know?
I do remember a 2 page spread in the worst showing a very thankful Dylan who sung the freo fc praises
Considering his best mate Jesse was still at the club makes me feel like the real reason for his exit was that he was a young kid shit scared about having a kid, I'm glad he valued that over doing the apparent 'right thing' by the club
