TOPIC: Forward

I don’t know anything about coaching but is it possible to make a forward out of a backman.
To me, Griffin Logue marks the ball well, is athletic and can hold his own in a contest. Can’t some one like him be taught to kick goals?
Or do you have to be born a leading forward?

He could be, if he wasn't to busy doing beep tests, standing vertical leaps and 15 km time trials.

If my memory serves me right, he is a beautiful kick and knows where the goals are. I'm quietly confident he will be our answer to a strong leading CHF. Here's hoping!!

he's not really even a backman yet so I'm not sure what he will be capable of in time.

I like his attitude...aggressive and runs hard. He can really kick it long and low with that left foot. He could play forward, but I like his pace and hard run off half back. Even as a big mid may work for Logue.

Agreed Sunny. We have a shortage of mid to tall sized forwards and at 193cm and 95kg he is a solid unit for a 20 year old. We have more backmen than forwards so I reckon we should turn him into a forward.

I remember last season he played part of a game or two up forward and could leap. He only has one goal to his name so far but let him build on that.

He’ll go ok Logue. When Freo drafted him at 7 or thereabouts, a KPP if you want to call him that, some weren’t to impressed. A kid called SPS was being talked up only for Carlton to pick him up. I’ve been following SPS with some interest and I think Logue was a terrific acquisition in hindsight. When he overcomes his current injury bout, he’ll be slottting into our back or forward line comfortably. Let’s hope it’s after the bye.

I worry about his injury. It appears it is a congenital problem. He may have the misfortune of Morabito. Be awful if this comes to pass.

I think Bennell is currently getting over his affliction of Morabititous.
Surely we couldn't have another bout going around?
I thought the ETAF was sprayed?

Some players have better instincts and sense of timing on a footy field than others. I think those are particularly important for forwards. No doubt the best backmen also have that innate sense of the game, but at the end of the day with a defender you can always say 'stay on your man', and make it simple, and most of the game is coming from ahead of you. You'll quite often see players who pick the game up late starting in defence (examples being Falou at GWS or Kennelly for Sydney).

Logue might have fantastic instincts for all I know, so perhaps he's a chance to be a good forward, but I think you'd start by playing him down back for a while to learn the game. Our backline is full of smart footy players to learn from, and I reckon a bit of chaos down in the form of Logue would be great.

That said, Lyon did thrown him forward at times last year. It didn't work very well, but Lyon either thought he could contribute down there or was desperate enough to try it.

Yeah, Morgan, I think he was thrown forward when he was not really firing in the backline. I would be more inclined to put him forward when he is playing well, so that he feeds off his confidence.
