Jezza bought this up after the game and was it just him and me, but did anyone actually notice Waterman during that game? Yes he kicked a couple of goals but I felt he pretty much ineffectual.

Does a nomination ever come from a losing side?

I know I've had a go at Jezza about saying Brayshaw would win the award this season, but If Waterman got a nomination for that effort then surely one of our guys will pick one up as the season goes on. Banfield would considered unlucky already and Darcy should have got one last year.

This is all fitting into the anti Fremantle conspiracy very nicely. Evil AFL!

Firstly, I'm not remotely interested in who gets nominated for the Rising Star Award.

In fact. I'll leave it at that.

He got the nod for that effort? Strnadica is a chance then for RS and AA. Bah!

Isn't the rising star award just there so that clubs like Carlton and Brisbane can stay interested in the season for a bit longer?

I tried to take notice of Waterman whilst watching the replay.
He went alright and I can’t really say he didn’t deserve it.

I think like the Glendinning or Norm Smith, it is probably more likely to go to a player on the winning team.
Most of our young guys were equally deserving though as they seem to go in a bit harder at times and I think it is only a matter of time.

Darcy definitely should have got a nomination last year though so I wouldn’t be surprised if we didn’t get one.
Actually nothing surprises me re Fremantle and the AFL anymore.

As every week goes by I'm getting more annoyed that we didn't pick up Stephenson as one of our first picks. Had another 20 disposal game and kicked another couple of goals including the sealer.
So if Roly had a go at the recruiters today in his presser about picking players with a lack of pace, does he actually have any say in who is recruited?
This guy has pace to burn and at this stage looks a monty for the RS.
Would he be any better in our forward line though? Collingwood play a very attacking brand of high scoring football which suits a player like him but which seems the opposite to us.

For Roly to have a go at the recruiters is a bit rich. He would have plenty of input in the decision making process prior to the draft, for him not to simply defies belief. Its just a another classic Roly deflection after another poor performance.

Don't blame the recruiters, if you have no influence over recruiting, then your job is to come up with a style of game that suits the players you have been given. Do it.

Come on wisdom in hindsight is easy. We have two very good selections in Brayshaw and Cerra. I think Banfield has been very good and Duman and Crowden show that with this season under their belt they will be strong performers. Fair go they are learning the trade and doing OK.

I never said they weren't doing okay but he's doing a lot better. You didn't actually respond to anything i said though.

I'm sorry but I don't agree that we used our top picks well in the last two drafts. Logue is a project player who was a basketballer who only took up football in his teens and has a long way to go.
Brayshaw seems like a good young kid who will be a steady player and will always go okay. I'd like to think he may one day maybe as good as Lachie Neale. These types of players though are never tagged as they don't hurt the opposition enough even if they do pick up a lot of disposals. He was never thought of as top ten pick by other clubs as his type of midfielders can be picked up lower in the draft. e.g. Neale

In my way of thinking though you use these gold picks on someone exciting who has the potential to change a game or win it off their own boot. Or a hard to find kpp with potential. Stephenson is like that, Brandner already looks good kicking goals and showing good signs at EP. People have said that Kelly wouldn't have been worth an early pick. Why not? He's quick, got great skills, is evasive and he gets hold of the ball-a lot!. In fact he doesn't appear to have too many weaknesses, but because he is 23 he's too old to be picked too early? We needed him in the midfield now more than a young Brayshaw.

On the other hand Cerra does have some of that x factor about him and I believe we've done better lower in the draft. Ryan and Banfield look like long term prospects and are already in our best 22.

Steady on CA, there are 7 phases to this rebuild and we are only in phase 2. Everything is going to plan. Don't be fussing over mispent picks inside the top ten. We have plenty of those coming our way in the next few seasons.

Stephensen would have been fantastic on a big ground like Optus. Has a tonne of talent and there's not much he can't do. I hope our boys can get close to what he'll achieve.
Nathan: When did you get balls?
Simon: I've always had balls you've just never seen them.
Nathan: That's the gayest thing I've ever heard.

Hypen, every time we try to load stage 3, there seems to be a bug in the system that reloads plan A phase 1, which takes to phase 2 which then takes us to loading stage 3, which ...............

I bet a lot of clubs wished they had drafted Fyfe or Dangerfield when they had the chance. Rhys Palmer was our first pick and won the RS but on his history would we pick him now? Looks like Tim Kelly (too old for RS I know) was overlooked by quite a few clubs. We could churn through all the what ifs. Even though NicNat is persona non grata to us I bet Melbourne wished they had picked him rather than Jack Watts.
