Hughes could come into the backline to release connor into the midfield to release mundy to spend more time in the forward line. His presence alone in the forward 50 will haunt the tigers this week..

Alex Pearce was probably more serviceable as a ruckman than johnno was. The ruck battle against the tigers is completely different to that of west coast.

Richmond are another team with a smaller forward line, so if duman stays in the team, johnno out for hughes might not be such a bad option for team balance, just need to find a replacement for son son.

There is no reason Hughes can't play forward. He is deceptively quick, can hold marks, kicks well and is a solid unit. But it won't happen...freo likes to tag players for life.

Richmond has no 2nd ruck, they use Grigg FFS.
Put whoever you want in. Cox is a candidate as well as Apeness, Meek or other triers.

As previously stated, Johnson was lost in the forward line but played better back. He made some poor disposal / decisions which were costly. But I'd rather have Michael than Goddard, talk about a liability.

Hughes was a non-playing emergency for the Derby but played in the Peel loss to Perth a few weeks ago. 16 kicks 8 handballs 8 marks and 2 tackles. He’s played 24 games too.

I wonder if the club wanted to get a look at Duman and that’s keep him out of the side as they play a similar role.

Think we need a tall like Cox to take Rance and give Cammac a lesser defender. Cam’s kicking inside 50 has been elite.

I don't think I'm as high on Cox and Hughes as most on here seem to be. Cox seems like a old-fashioned footy player, which I like, but I'm not sure he's tall or fast enough to be an elite AFL player. In the right circumstances I reckon he could be handy, but I'm not sure there's an obvious spot for him in the team as constructed.

As for Hughes, I like the way he attacks the footy, but his decision-making with the ball in his hand is a bit suspect to my eye. At 23 there is still some room for improvement, but I'm not sure he's much more than an injury-replacement at the moment.

Hughes was kitted up in the rooms before the game so must be fit and well. Cox is as tall and quicker than johnno. Sooner or later he will get a run.

Apeness has been cruelled by injuries in his time at Freo. When he has played he hasn’t looked like cutting it at afl level, or at wafl level either really, and I am guessing he will be delisted at the end of the year. Having said that he can play at both full forward, in the ruck, and is a big unit. We need all of that. Giving him a game now would probably be rewarding mediocre form but if the match committee were ever going to play him again I would have thought now would be a good time. It would be nice if he flattened a couple of Richmond players while he was at it.

The Ape has never had a really decent run at it due to injury and also the fact he is a tall and young. Hopefully he will surprise us and get going. A first rounder, we should take a risk and play him.
