Rhufus, you say you love Sandi - and I believe you - but to say it's the coach's fault for not telling Sandi to go back 20m and kick the thing would be to suggest both they and Sandi have no idea how football is played. Of course it's an option for Sandi to go back 20m then kick the ball accurately over 50m, but that option has a few problems.

Firstly, to get Sandi 20m back from the mark quickly would take a tug boat or two. The way modern footy is played you need to move the ball quickly, and we just don't have time for him to back up the truck.

Second, he's never been an accurate kick, and that was before we put him in basketball boots to help him with his foot injuries. Kicking in those things is a nightmare.

He's doing the right thing in looking for the handball, but sometimes it doesn't work. Having someone a bit slow with their hands is one of the tradeoffs you have to live with to have a 7 footer running around on a footy oval.

Think the best - and most probable - solution CA, is keep playing the big fella, but we now have to play 2 rucks.
Limit 211's game time to 50% or less so the match, use him strategically and as a game day mentor, and throw in whoever is most ready out of Apeness, Jones, Meek or Strnadica .

And then cross our fingers 211 holds up until Hodor gets back, or one of these other fellows stands up.

Hodor stood up when we didn't expect it. So hopefully, one of these blokes can also surprise us.

Hopefully someone that can take a contested mark,
particularly if they have hands the size of dinner plates.

I know it has forever been a problem but for a man so tall he simply can't take a mark. It was never more evident than today, and don't get me going about him being tired, he missed so many marking opportunities in the 1st quarter alone.
Whilst he wasn't our worst player today, he was decidedly average.

Yes Noddy. I've never quite understood how someone that most players can't even reach up to his arms and with such big hands can battle to take an uncontested mark at times.

With Tabs out we needed more marking power around the ground. If you are a big fella you gotta be able to mark the pill.

To have only have lost by 8 points was a testament to our effort.

And effort is just about the only thing the players and Ross rely on

Ape has been cursed with injury. Let's play him before he gets sent to the glue factory. He is over 200cm, can mark...and is a big, angry mother. I want to at least see how he will go a couple of years older than when he last pulled on the purple.

What I saw today clearly was at odds with the usual suspects. With the inside 50s and centre clearance going against us, if it wasn’t for the effort purple power, we would have been bleeding. At the end an 8 point loss to some who suggest they’re not a bad team, then it’s not a catastrophe is it. But our 3 losses have been to teams above us, two away games. That’s ok by my calcs.

That's why I say good effort by the players but not much else....considering the lack of input by the coach

Morgan Im happy enough with your handball only theorem for Sandi, thats fine, if you were coach Id support it. Im certainly not suggesting that Roly doesnt know how to play footy, just that sometimes he teaches all the complexities and assumes the players already know the basics. He certainly looks to fail to teach the basics sometimes.

I`ll give you another example, just from this game. Why does Fyfe, when 20 m out, directly in front, game on the line, best player in the land or close to it, take 2 steps and then poke at it and then act disappointed when it slews off to the side? Look at the greats, look just at Ben Brown if you want to, look at anyone who is a reliable kick for goal. None of them take two steps and poke at it. They take a long run up, straight as a die, kick through the ball. When it happens repeatedly thats a failure of coaching. If Fyfe went through a proper routine then missed, thats the players skill level.

There are numerous other faults with the Dockers that are repeated ad nauseum that really have nothing to do with skill. These are just two examples.

Maybe Roly needs an under 11s coach to help him.

So you’re saying Rhufus that for Fyfe to win the Brownlow, there was little influence by Roly on how he’s been and still currently one of the best in the league. Ok I’ll play that game, explain to me how Mundy missed a 30m set shot on a slight angle before the half time siren yesterday. Now he’s got an excellent routine, no thanks to his coaches, I asssumed. Swings and roundabouts.
