Just watching the Geebung game and Sam Menegola continues to impress. He is seriously approaching A grade levels. Of all the players we have lost in the last 5 years he must be up there with our biggest mistake. We had long enough develop him but couldn’t achieve what he’s managed at the Cats. Good luck to him but what a shame for us.

I was just playing the field in case they showed up Walt, not having a crack at your point. I brought him up a few weeks back, while watching the Cats one dedicated couch day...

he's come good and he deserves it, he's out the work in. Just one of those things I think, circumstances conspired and it's all fallen into place for him now at Geelong.

Wish him all the best. Same with Kelly and especially Menzel.

That is the most notable thing about our recruiting in the last couple of years, Suker, we have drafted footy players, not athletes or basketballers, so they don't have to spend 3 or 4 years at Peel, learning to play footy. 1 pre season to learn how to run all day, and they are away in the big league. Only took a decade or more to get it right.

Kelly was pick 24. He was a ready to go player, but this notion of picking young kids will come back to bite some clubs. Slime picked two forward before him even though their midfield needed restocking.
I'm pleased that we took Ryan, Banfield and Crowden who had experience at higher levels and am surprised that clubs let the like of them slip so far down the draft order.

Kelly played for the Red and Whites last year and many thought Schoilth would get picked up after winning the Sandover. There's talk that he's not keen at staying in Geelong due to close family ties in Perth (similar to Wilson's story). But the slime passing him by is laughable. Our draft of Brayshaw, Cerra, Crowden, Banfield, North etc was pure gold. Not hanging on to Menegola is not a big deal. In the long term there's more upside to our kids than Kelly and Menegola.

Kelly is a very good player but I am not spending pick 24 on him, Menengola can't kick that well. You all seem to think as he is playing for Geelong by definition that means we made a mistake in cutting him. Our list is better than theirs, Menegola would struggle to get a game at Freo.
