As I understand it you can overrun the ball and bump a player. This is called shepherding. Nothing against the rules as long as you don't contact the head. And to be entirely fair to Cook, I don't think he collected White's head.
But its hard to look at Thomas's bump and see deliberate head contact. He maybe should have anticipated that there would be head contact, but so should the Hawks player in the "no case to answer" incident.

Shane, I have a lot of time for Lindsay Thomas but he deserves every bit of those three weeks. Selwood was on the ground, Thomas didn't need to bump, it was reckless and a deliberate action, it got him high and Selwood was in a bit of trouble after contact. Guilty, I reckon Thomas would tell you as much.

If someone did that to Stephen Hill, I'd jump the fence.

He was running in to tackle Thomas, anticipating Thomas would get the ball, and dropped down low. It was a reasonable decision to bump and Selwood contributed to the height and impact.

But, it was a 2 week suspension based on the rules. They admittedly pushed it up to severe impact to get it to the tribunal. It says that in their statement.

It's supposed to be an objective system which applies the rules evenly.

Selwood saw him coming and ducked his head to draw high contact like he always does. Old team mates in commentary label it a dog act by Thomas

If it were Sonny Walters instead of Selwood it would be 'ducked into it - play on" and Thomas would be lauded by commentators for smart play

You got it right there LS, Dunstall reckons that Mikey should never get a free kick. The big issue with the Thomas bump is the media crucifixion which gave Christian (a misnomer if ever there was one) the incentive and all clear to throw Lindsay to the wolves while letting a couple of others off. I have called Thomas out as a sniper before, but that does not mean I agree with him getting life while others who hit with a deliberate clenched fist to the head do not even get cited by the tribunal, let alone the couple who were let off this week. The tribunal is rorting the system and rules still, and as corrupt as ever.
