TOPIC: Tribunal

That is precisely the bit that has now changed Hypen. The players concerned couldn't reasonably foresee contact to the head, so they have no case to answer. It is precisely the opposite of what Fyfe got done for.

So if the player said to the umpire, "..... but I couldn't foresee any clash to the head..."
Then the umpire has no alternative than to blow his whistle... "... play on"...

Can the AFL challenge?

The year also matters. Fyfe’s hit was four years ago, which was when the MRP was red hot. They’ve toned it down since then.

I'm happy to be corrected, but wasn't that 'red hot' phase to which Morgan refers (early in the season) the period when Michael Johnson got FOUR weeks for something that later became innocuous?
Watched the early part of 'Talking Footy' tonight in which they discussed the MRO's decisions - made excuses for everyone and while they didn't all play for Hawthorn, they did (except for Lindsay Thomas) all play for Victorian clubs. Giving Tom Mitchell a fine for a high elbow well behind the play smacks of keeping a candidate in the Brownlow race — no such concession for a lesser offence when Fyfe was robbed of his chance to win the medal.

This is a significant dilution of the Protect The Head policy. If the AFL are serious about protecting players' brains then the appropriate policy is: choose to bump then make then sure that you don't hit the head. OR ELSE.

The policy is now when you bump don't aim for the head but collateral damage is ok. This changes how players train and perform on the field.

Sooner or later a player will get a major head injury, coma and/or death and this will be changed.

Why would a player choose to bump and not tackle? Because bumping is easier, especially when the other bloke doesn't know it's coming. Both lecras and burton chose the easy option. The player had the ball...tackle him!!!! They hurt someone because they chose to protect themselves and not commit to the best footy option when a player has the BALL!!! Tackle the player with the ball!! Simple enough to me. Too much concussion, let's at least try and limit it.

In the light of that, can someone explain to me how Lindsay Thomas got 3 weeks for bumping Selwood without using the word black.

Stager, cry baby, soft, Margetts, Equitable and fair tribunal.

Does that cut it Shane. As I said earlier, the cheap shot on Blakely (coincidentally by a Port player in round 1 was far worse as far as intent, and potential for injury, (which all of a sudden in Thomas' case became a case for punishment after in the preceeding weeks, being stated as not a factor) but we don't expect fairness from the MRP any more.

As one of the footy scribes said the other night, if it was Lindsay Thomas that put Shaun Higgins into hospital and not Ryan Burton, he would have been sent straight to the tribunal. That is not, in my view, because of the colour of his skin but rather his reputation.

In slo mo Thomas bumps Selwood very low on the body and the head is about the third point of contact.

His reputation as a hard man? Lindsay Thomas?

Michael Christian upgraded the impact from high to severe, not because the impact was severe bit for other reasons. It was a stitch up. Christian gamed the system to send Thomas to the tribunal.

Burton hit someone holding (but releasing) the ball. Thomas ran past the ball to collect a bloke.

They are completely different.

Ok, I'll give it a shot:
Angry little smart forward who knows the game is better without a Scumwood uses his powerfully built frame to demolish an unsuspecting moron in an attempt to stay on the wealthy side of the tracks. They don't like the looks of him, huck the book at him and send him outta town.

How's that?
