Nobody likes him.
Is it because he can't kick, mark or tackle?
Is it because he's a good looking young man with an equally good looking partner/wife/husband, and people are jealous?
Maybe his running action gets on people's nerves?
Anyway, I'm here to change your mind about Tom.
(and mine as well).
Now, I'm sure he has some feather's in his cap, amongst all those black eyes, and I'm going to attempt to list them here, so we can all finally see the true value of this young footballer/escaped goat.
Firstly, 1. i). whatever. - I once saw him nearly catch a bloke when he was chasing him up the flank. Ok, he didn't quite catch him, but he made him kick it, and he shanked it out on the full. Well done, Tom.
ii). He could be keeping Cam Sutcliffe or Danyle Pearce out of the team.
iii). You can not dispute the fact that he has beautiful hair.
iv). If we start calling him Tom instead of Tommy, he might toughen up a bit, after all, soft by name, soft by nature, and all that.
v) (a) He does not appear to be following Ross's game plan.
v) (b) He appears to be following Ross's game plan.
v) (c) He may be improvising on Ross's game plan, which shows initiative and courage. (This could also be a black eye, but I'm giving him the benefit of the doubt).
vi). He has a huge tank - I'm not quite sure how that benefits the team, but I'm just sure it does.
vii). When he dropped that mark in the vicinity of Cyril Rioli, he didn't actually soil himself, so credit to him for being able to hold that one back. But that aside, we simply must move on from that - it's done, he knows it, there's no need to remind him of it.
viii). He has a cool number on his back, and when he runs out onto the ground he just looks magnificent.
ix). um, ok, let's skip to x - no wait - he works the mark with flair and precision and doesn't even look silly.
x). He's more popular with opposition players, and supporters than his own, for some reason. This could work to our advantage
Ok , having a list of ten good things means we have plenty to work with, so I'm starting a campaign to keep Tom in the team, and protect him from the likes of, well, everyone. I might even get on that new fandangled facebook website, and push his wagon, across the country and the world..
Take note Freo selectors - it starts with you, this afternoon at the selection table. Do the right thing.
Now. Who's with me?
