We can surely lure Hogan's Mum back to Freo for those bickies

You know it make sense. Adelaide will lose Sloane. The only way McGovern moves to Freo is if his bro from Adelaide gets there. So it’s simple trade Neale for Mitch. We lose a mid, seeing how we’ve got heaps of them, we get both McGovern’s holding down a spot at each end for the next decade. Watch this story gather momentum.

Lachie Neale seems to have do a lot of the work for someone who's that easily replaceable. Maybe, in his perdurable cunning, Ross is trying to burn him out before trading him.

Is this for real or tongue in cheek? I'm hoping it's the latter otherwise you don't get it. You get constant posts about your glib, outlandish predictions but you still keep churning them out.

Is this the same Mitch McGovern you're talking about who just re-signed at the end of last year? The article talked about two players Fremantle are after but you manage to look into your weird crystal ball and throw in another three names just for the sake of it.

If it is just a bit of joke I take it back but with your history it's doubtful.

I'm not sure I want Jeremy McGovern anyway.

Sure he looks good against us but thats because we play into his single strength, overhead intercept marking. Watching his games this year and he has a clear weakness below his knees and other sides have worked that out. Paying overs for Mitch because we want to get Jeremy doesn't seem a winning proposition to me and we would have to pay overs since he's contracted as is Hogan.

Considering the picks we have available to us, going after anyone before next year isn't really a goer. Maybe revisit all that at the end of next season

edit:

Perdurable, Shane? Really?

Let's develop Hugh Dixon first. Not sure why mcgovern/s are being sought after. Seems like a lot of coin to me. Keep our first pick, use it wisely and just get on with it.

Even we have McGovern worked out, in the preseason game Walters kicked 3 on him beating him on the ground he has the turning circle of the Ark Royal.

Before we start giving away the farm enticing key forwards we should work out a forward system they can work in.

J McGovern would have been a great get as a rookie, but we whiffed on that one. He's a very good player in the right system, but looking at our squad I don't think our backline is the area of most concern. Spending millions of dollars on one player there seems like a waste.

You could talk me into Hogan, but we'd be better off waiting until he is a free agent than sending players the other way. Still, a forward line based on a core of Hogan, Tabs, McCarthy and Walters would be pretty handy.

I'm not saying our recruiters should be doing nothing, but it seems like the best additions (Hill, Wilson) fall into our laps. I think the focus should be on developing the draft picks we have, and if someone makes the move to leave their club, and wants to come to WA, that's when you have the most leverage.

I've been thinking about this just a bit and I'm still of the view that we need to work with what we have and I'm not convinced that we are doing all we can to get the best out of what we have.

Comparing Tabs and Hogan is a case in point. To get Hogan outside of a free agency transfer, we will need to spend big and throw at least 2 first rounders at MFC. Hogan is definitely worth paying the big bucks but its questionable whether its worth us cashing in 2 first rounders (if not more) instead of waiting till his current contract expires. 2 first rounders can go a long way.

What does he offer more than Tabs (not counting having both) Well he offers better footy smarts in particular. I'm not convinced he's a better mark or better below the knees but he is certainly a better forward. We can, in my view, make up some of that. I'm not sure what out forward coach is doing but there doesn't seem to be much work being done on getting our guys to lead to open areas of the ground. Mostly it seems to be running back to try and get the ball before the defenders do or kicking high to a contest forward of the 10 meter square (which it seems is what they train to do)

Maybe, a radical suggestion here, if we trained our forwards to lead into open areas, train our forwards to create those open areas and train our forwards to actually make use of the smalls then we would get better value. Actually, its not rocket science as even the egurls can do all that. Watch how the always leave a space for JK to run into and then be ready to kick into that space. Yes he gets contested marks as well but he gets a heck of a lot of marks on a lead s metre or two in front of his direct opponent.

Now I'm not saying Tabs will ever be another JK, Hogan or Buddy but we could be making better use of what we have (Same goes for Apeness etc when they come back into the side)

Even if we do want Hogan, they should be spending 2018 setting up to kick it in to a dominant forward, using Taberner* as the place keeper for Hogan. Firstly it would be good practice for when he arrives, secondly it would help show Hogan that he wouldn't wind up being turned into a half back and, thirdly, we'd win games this year and it might turn out we don't need Hogan.

* I'd use Kersten.
