After watching tonights game on TV, it seems to me we were very dangerous when we played 3 or 4 forwards ahead of the ball, who led at the kicker. There were times when Wilson and co kicked the ball in and it was marked by the Bullies, in a spot to which Freo players should have been leading. Even if they did not mark the footy, had they been there they could have brought it to ground. I don't think the blame always lays with the player kicking it into the 50.
There was an occasion when I think Wilson kicked it into space the pocket. McCarthy, who was standing behind about 3 or 4 opponents who were just filling space, ran to where the ball was kicked but could not quite get the mark. A smarter forward would have been leading to that spot as the footy was kicked. On other occasions McCarthy was standing 10 meters behind the defender who marked a footy which was "kicked onto his head" in the perfect spot for a player like McCarthy to come over the top and mark. Had he read the play well enough to put himself into the contest. He is not the only one doing this, but the most obvious. That is what Tabs provides, he leads and offers a contest.
