I loved that set shot kicking by some of the Penrith mob - especially a couple of kicks by Cameron. Right in front he had a barn to hit and he ends up hoola-hooping it off into the pond. Patton ended up with double donuts - great stats.

They're not so great, we could've beaten them - we will next time.

You make some very good points Jason but to say a forward line isn't that important is really stretching it. In last year's GF sooky Reiwoldt had a very good game and the the year before Boyd was unlucky not to win the Norm Smith Medal. When we lost in 2013 Gunston was the difference. Buddy and Roughead were awesome in the Hawthorn golden years as were Brown and Lynch at Brisbane.

The other point is that a big forward brings those around him into the game. You only had to watch Kennedy and even Cox at the Pies. He was the one who created goal scoring opportunities by breaking open packs and deft tap ons which gave Stephenson the chance to run onto the loose ball.

A guy like Kennedy is often double teamed which creates opportunities for others. Plus team mates stand taller with a guy like him around. In fact the slime midfield has been average for a long time but he makes them look good.

Nah sorry, for every loss like Adelaide when the ball isn't delivered properly or the midfield is beaten and the big forwards don't perform you can always find the opposite in another game.

CA, Mundy has spent a bit of time in the forward line over the years, and if we had the midfield depth we are now developing, he and Fyfe would probably rotate through there a lot more. If we believed in attacking footy, Blakely would be in the middle, and any of Grey, Nyhuis, Hughes and a few others would be in his spot.

Jason, you are kidding, right? Grand Finals are won by the team that kicks the highest score. Very few are won by not kicking the lowest score. Lyon proved that at the Saints, when he restricted opposition teams to low scores, but his team could not kick a higher score. The same is happening with Freo, and it is destroying players, supporters and I would hazard a guess, more than a few TV's (Tropical?). We see glimpses of what could be, and get excited, only to get dropped back into depression every time we come up against what the coaching panel consider a top 4 team.

The Pies didn't beat the (potentially top 4) Crows because they stopped the Crows from scoring. The Crows could not kick goals coz the Pies were kicking goals at the other end. We have the team to do that. Play them in a way that they can do that.

Jason point is that the team with the supposed best forward lines have lost the grand final. Of course every forward line needs a certain level of competence. As long as that level is there i tend to agree.

The most important point for me is the quick ball movement. Roly coached sides have had pressure at the ball and a strong defence but have lacked direct quick ball movement. If there is quick and accurate ball movement with a forward structure then goals will occur a plenty. We have seen glimpses of this from freo this year and i hope it is part of the developmental plan.

Jezza:

"If after Rd. 6 we’re behind the ledger, then I’ve totally been misguided."

Until you unpack it, this almost sounds like a verifiable (i.e. falsifiable) prediction.

What, though, is this "ledger"? Where is it to be found? Who maintains it, making entries and little black/red marks on it?

Who, in the event that Freo fail to live up to the mysterious ledger come Rd6, is responsible for misguiding you?

Most importantly, what are you going to do about it?

FDB,

He'll do what he always does. If we get a win, he'll talk up Roly. If we get pasted, he'll blame the kids....and go back to talking nonsense before the next game.

I'm a fan of Jezza’s views, and based on what Ive seen this year barring too many injuries, think we will do ok.
