Let's be honest, it doesn't really affect Freo supporters all that much, given that on our current trajectory we're likely to only make 2 GFs in that time, but it still seems like a bit of an injustice.

This isn't a "deal" with the Victorian Government; it's another example (as if we needed one) that the AFL is part of the Victorian Government.
However, we shouldn't complain. After all:
  • Interstate clubs have been promised a charter flight to Melbourne should they reach the Grand Final from this year
  • Non-Victorian clubs will be offered more access to train on the MCG ahead of home and away games and finals
I'm so grateful that I have to adjust my trousers.

So, the Vic gov spends $500m and in return the AFL guarantees that the GF and the Brownlow stay in Melbourne. WA invests $1.75 billion on a new stadium and in return the AFL gives ... diddly squat.

The VFL only got inverted on the first letter........I used to live there and they OWN the game.....no exceptions and no excuses. The national bit is a myth - that we all know - but its the IN YOUR FACE bit this really peeves me off!!

We should what? They don't listen, we don't exist and we never will - win a premiership against all the odds and shove their face in it might appease the grumpies like me.

I reckon the AFL should keep the Grand Final in Melbourne, but keep a tally of when a Victorian team gets a ‘home’ Grand Final they didn’t earn – like Richmond last year or the Bulldogs the year before. The next time Adelaide and Richmond play in the finals, for example, and Richmond is the higher placed team, they give up home ground advantage to Adelaide for that game as compensation for the GF. On balance that still favours Richmond because there is no bigger game than the GF; but at least it acknowledges the inequality and addresses it a little.
