If we hit our leads better in the forward 50, we could have had another 20 shots on goal.

Kicking straighter would have resulted in a 15 goal drubbing

One thing I've noticed is that our kick from 80m out is more often from the middle of the ground, meaning we have moved it through the middle more consistently. That means you can try to hit a target anywhere in the forward 50m. Compare this to last year, where if we did get it 80m from goal it was near the boundary, Your options there are pretty limited from there, which led to us bombing.

I reckon a lot of that improvement in style has to do with our backline. Not only can they defend - meaning Lyon is probably more confident letting them be exposed - they move the ball really quickly and aggressively. I just don't think guys like Spurr, Ibbo, Sheridan had it in them to do that.

The problem is that when you do have all of the forward line to hit up, it's pretty embarrassing when you miss, like we did every time against Port, and every other time today.

But, i really like Tabs and CamMac's efforts to act as link players today, and I thought we managed to find a decent balance of guys getting back and players forward.

At least we are scoring and playing some more attacking footy than the last 3 years.

In 2015 we would have won that game by kicking a a score of 65 and restricting the Gold Coast to 55

We’ve played 2 games at Optus and in both have missed to the right numerous times when kicking for goal at the city end. It’s not rocket science. I expect someone smarter than me at the club will work it out and get the message across to the players and the problem will dissipate.

This one should have been done and dusted at half-time.

I agree, it could've been much prettier than it was. Still, Fyfe monstered that game and HOW MUCH FUN WAS IT BOOING THAT TURNCOAT WELLER!

Apart from accuracy when kicking for goal, we dominated the bulk of that game. We played well. Should have been 7 goals up at quarter time, such was our dominance.

We failed our first real test (against Port), and we get our second next week against GWS.

But overall (and I don't want to blame Roly for this), we seem to be playing with more confidence. Even Sandi tried to do things that normal footy players do. It would have been great if his running snap had gone through.

The things I loved about that game were: Fyfe being Fyfe, Walters being Sonson, Alex Pearce being McPharlin, Hayden can-I-be-a-WCE being Ballas, and everyone being a team. I also re-watched the game once I got home, and I would like to say that Nick Dal Santo is a tonic for AFL commentary. Knowledgeable, neutral in his commentary, fast talking, camp, totally refreshing for me. Or maybe it’s just me.

I don't think we can help but be more attacking when you have Wilson, Ryan and Hill running it out of the backline.
Any coach who tried to stifle that would be a fool.

Steady, significant improvement on shots for goal every week, apart from the accuracy of kicking, which was generally way off today - both in the field and on goal.

Yes the easy missed shots on goal and poor foot/hand passing were cringe worthy but the tackle pressure, fast ball movement, overall dominance and the kicks that actually went through for goals were a delight. Lots to like today but should have won by > 50+points

Great win.
Yeh, I’d drop that Lyon bloke, his skills and kicking are poor.

Good win against average/ below average opposition. Let’s see how we go against GWS with their running midfield. At least Lobb is wounded! The back line is looking like the best we’ve ever had, midfield is capable but needs Son Sons pace - forward line is still a work in progress.....Bennell would be handy!!

Bennell would be more than handy. The way the game is played now, a midfielder/half-forward who can put on the jets and hit a target are so valuable.

Can you imagine trying to stop the Hills, Walters, Bennell, Ballas and Matera in the forward half of the the ground? No team has that many competent smallish defenders. All Tabs and McCarthy would need to do is make the occasional contest and get out the way.

Getting out of the way of Balla's at full noise has proved to be a problem for his teammates, throw a HB into the mix and it could get interesting up forward.

My view. We played well but missing 5 set shots was 25 points that would have been handy and made the win look great.

We beat them in every stat except tackles, but if you have the ball you don't need to tackle and we won in contested possession so were getting first use of it.

Tabener played too high again, 18 disposals, 3 scoring shots and 1 inside 50 is not enough. He dropped marks in the forward line and had to play off the ground which isn't his strength. He needs to play closer to goal and hold his marks. He hasn't got the field kicking to play 70m from goal. After his performance last week I thought he had improved but seems not.

The forward line otherwise was fairly productive with over50% efficiency. But missed those 5 set shots. McCarthy played his best game, Walters was great in the midfield he provides class and pace. Fyfe was incredible.

the back line are gelling I like that we have 3 reliable outlet defenders now in Wilson, S Hill and Blakely. Blakely will be the next Mundy he is so composed under pressure and has great foot skills and read the paly extremely well.

The escape goat of the week Sheridan put in a good game, B Hill will be back so it might be he goes back to Peel although one of our first year guys might benefit from a run with Peel to get some touch in less pressure.

If Sandi misses a week Darcy will do the job so we are OK there.
