TOPIC: Please Don't Change

It's not a problem, it's a game plan. Teams have used it very successfully in the past. It's just that they didn't employ it until the ball was actually in the forward line.

Agreed Shane but wanting is front and centre.,

Weirdly, or observationally last week, it didn't stop us playing two people behind the ball in the back line before the ball was bounced and actually there? So why not play the spares in the forward line.

It's just confidence and accountability for our Mids. The way our Back six and midfield played on Sat we could put two people in the forward 50 all the time and make the opposition more accountable, rather than have three defenders sitting by themselves across our half forward line waiting for a hurried kick out of trouble. Think Stephen Hill kick down one of the defenders throats or Bradley Hill kick down another defenders throat. The defenders wouldn't have been there if we had a couple of forwards in the 50.

The Stephen Hill errors were when he kicked the ball over the leading forward’s head and into the waiting arms of the backman our leading forward had managed to slip. That was lack of match practice.
Someone said it here the other day - if you win the midfield battle more often than not your forwards will be in the forward 50 where everybody on here wants them to be. Lose the midfield battle and they’ll be funnelling back towards the square. Watch any game on a weekend and you’ll see it.
This phenomenon is not solely the purview of Lyon/Freo.

I like it when they start behind the square and keep running into the forward 50 while taking a handpass as they move through the centre

People who went to the game saw freo flooding the forward 50 before freo had got the ball in there? Apparently freo has gone from having no one forward of the ball to most of the team.

Don't worry doc, this will be reviewed, a stat spreadsheet on hand, several young IT guys poring over numbers, coaches murmuring a lot, physios adding their 2 bobs worth, masseuse people doing more touching...and finally Ross telling everybody to shut up and stack the backline. All in a week at ffc...x 22.

That was the 1st quarter, they all thought Fyfe pointed the other way.

All sports require confidence. Sports psychologists abound nowadays, getting into the players heads.

Didn't I read somewhere Ross Lyon did his degree in HR? IMHO this is half the battle - certainly preferable to a pharmacist coach!

The best sports psychologists I ever came across were the teammates who "incentivized" you to perform well or else training next week was going to be painful.

Just don't get Polly to 'incentivize' you.

You'll spend most of the training session out in the car park, with a stubbie, durry and tranny.*

*Probably still better for you than listening to a Roly presser, just sayin'

The only thing we didn't have was the tranny (although sometimes some of us did wonder about others of us) so Polly woulda fitted right in as the team psych and incentiviser.

Didn't need it B1R1, mind you by the end of most seasons, we were in no state for a mad Monday or a trip anywhere.

As for what sort of club, legend has it that our training night bar takings (with reduced prices to boot) were considerably better than other clubs in the comp's Saturday night takings.
