It looked a mess on TV. I get the feeling the whole thing is like a canned audience TV show. They bring the lights, the music and expect audience participation, regardless of how good the show is.
The player race through was over egged by the media and Bell, and pinched from the Dallas Cowboys stadium. I get that some people like this sort of Go USA razzmatazz. But I just find it cheesy, as it's only designed to extract more from people's pockets.
My game day 'experiences' aren't manufactured. The Freo chant starting at our terrible final game. Jlo's crowd hug, Purple Jesus turning it on and playing to the crowd, Hill going for a 4 bounce goal from the line, Pavlich's 700th, PJs and Hobbits and Mundy's goals after the siren.
For me, that's what footy is about and gets my arse of my seat, and it's been sadly lacking as fan 'engagement' takes over. It's club-spun cotton candy; overly sweet, overpriced and the experience is gone as quick as it came. It's mostly designed to get more non footy people to the stadium for a night out, which will work for a while, as the stadium is still spangly and new.
