This could become one of the better backlines in the comp:
Ryan Hamling Johnson
Wilson Pearce Blakely

Looks like Banfield is our next Creepy.

Kersten or Tucker in next week for Crowden.

Great response from last week.
Great to see hamling in the side - what a difference he made and allowed johnno to be the spare 3rd.
Great effort by s hill on his return game.
The mids were really good.

Darcy in for Crowden, and let Tabs play as a forward. Only in very desperate times did Pav go into the ruck. Why should Tabs be given that role.

I like Tabs as a back up ruckman and think it works well. For me, last nights team is our best one. Darcy will get his chances but may have to bide his time as playing two ruckmen is undesirable. Crowden was poor early but was good in the last quarter on the ball. Tucker may be a better option at the moment but he deserves another game.

The game has changed since Pav played. Yep, who would have thought that playing 2 rucks was a thing of the past. But we need to play Sean Darcy. Not giving him game time now is going to come and bite us. I think the match committee is going to have to risk playing him and Sandi or give Sandi a rest. The latter option is my preference. Dropping our youth is not an option. Resting our elderly is.

Couldn’t agree more RM. our forward structure collapses when Tabs is in the ruck and the players revert to bombing it on Sandi’s head which as he never gets a free for the arm chop results in the ball being rebounded too easily. With Hodor in Sandi can rest on the bench and we don’t lose our edge in the ruck, plus I think he’d add that hardness that Tabs still lacks. He is our future and needs to get games at the top level to develop. Yesterday’s game against Griff for east Freo is going to be the best wafl opposition he’ll face and he won that.

It’s a great position to be in having blokes at Peel who could easily be getting games in the AFL, but must be very frustrating for them.

So we’ve played the best style of footy most on here have seen for many seasons - based on pressuring the ball carrier when we don’t have the pill and quick, fast ball movement when we do.

That style of footy is draining on players and you need every rotation available (notwithstanding RL only used 82/90 last night).

Yet there are now calls to change the team around and go top heavy against another fast-paced opponent?

Crowden got caught out a few times early on as he adjusted to the pace of AFL - but by the end he was standing up in tackles, making good decisions in close and stuck a couple of tackles himself.

If we are genuine about the rebuild then we absolutely have to reward efforts like his and give him a sustained run of games.

I felt Tucker was probably the unluckiest of the 4 to be dropped last week - but if that what was needed to bring in Crowden (who was rewarded for an outstanding preseason) - isn’t that what rebuilding is all about??

Tucker will be better for the experience and a few weeks back at Peel getting leather poisoning should help him along the road to being a 200+ gamer for us, IMHO

Darcy will be a jet for us but he’s only 19 (going on 20) and his time will come when we either decide to rest 211 or he succumbs to injury again.

Based on what I saw last night, every player contributed and they all deserve at least another week to back up their efforts - especially at the same ground.

As much as I’d like to think the brains trust at Freo took direction from DL last week on team selections - I hope they don’t this week! If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it!

Anyone complaing about Crowden should go and REALLY watch the replay....
Yep got caught early. Learnt and did some good things latter. Some brilliant shepards, tackles and handballs.
People will talk about Cerras 1st goal, but it resulted from a Crowden shepard.
Showed he wanted to be out there...
Should be out there...
Tucker's got to show us he REALLY wants to be out there, whch - whilst serviceable - he has yet to really take the game by the scruff of the neck.

Playing 2 ruckman is undesirable if 1 of them is pretty useless, but that is not the case with Darcy. Play him and allow Tabs to play as a forward. With either Darcy or Sandi forward while resting there is a lot of inferred pressure on the opposition.

We want " heart & soul " players. Hodor is the epitomy of that. It is crazy we arent playing him.

Stuff what the rest of the competition are doing. Take the load of Sandy, play 2 big blokes, rest one forward, and have the mosquito fleet be front and centre to them.
Let Tabs concentrate on being a KPP (though hes been admirable in the ruck), and let the future ( Hodor, AB, Cerra, Banfield and Mitch ) get on with it....

Tucker looks like a decent trade back to Victoria for a 2nd round pick. Logue & Nyhuis have more upside.

We played our best side on paper last night and I hope B. Hill's knee is OK and we can go in next week unchanged.

Kind of agree Davo but I still hold hope that our best side will contain Bennell.
