Agreed Mule,
Johnno just isn't a tall defender in the normal mode. He's best used, not as a lock down defensive tall but a sweeper across the half back line.
If, and this is a big if, we have both Wilson and PearceA functioning asa the pure defender and Johnno as the sweeper, thats gives us both mobility and accurate kicking out of defence. Provided they spot up our mids and provided our mids provide them with leads then we should be able to clear our defence better than we have been.
Then you need to rinse and repeat that into our forward 50.
To do you need to have somebody at home and get them to lead into space and not drag defenders back into situations where we can isolate a tall forward. Unfortunately we train to kick long to the top of the square and being that predictable, we are much easier to defend.
Those commenting that they expected different results after the JLT run against the egurls would have noticed we had players in the forward line and we looked for them. That changed against Port when we placed all our talls behind the ball and none forward of the ball.
We simply must do what every other team does and have players forward of the ball that lead into space. Refusing to change that, year on year is simply lunacy. If its such a great plan how come nobody else does it?
