There is a combination of deficiencies contributing to results like yesterday and it is all due to ineffective coaching:

1. A reluctance to prioritise kicking skills and smooth movement of the football.

2. A reluctance to prioritise methods and game style to improve scoring.

3. A reluctance to drop players that have repeated bad performances yet are rewarded with more games because they give 'good effort'. Never mind they give the ball to the opposition or kick it over the head of a fremantle forward that has busted his gut to make a strong lead and deserves to have it kicked onto his chest.

4. A reluctance to make game day decisions and changes on the field when it is obvious the opposition is getting on top of us.

5. A reluctance to believe or admit emotions, confidence, pride are real and do contribute to the mindset of a team and how we play.

6. A reluctance to let players have fun playing the game.

7. A reluctance to be gracious in defeat and offer reasonable answers to reasonable questions and instead behave arrogantly.

Number 2 and 6 are the biggest problems we have and the reason why we need a change at the top.

I watched all 9 games of footy on the weekend and thought, I’ve seen nothing in the last 2 years that’s changed my perpective on our rebuild. Only GWS impressed me, with their gut running and ball movement. For them it’s Yr. 6 of a build. Over the years they’ve build a Ferrari that now should win them a flag. Now given the talent pool that was gifted to them, it’s inevitable. Leon Cameron should walk, like the Australian Cricket Team, if they don’t win the flag 2018.

What Freo have achieved to date with mediocre talent is serviceable but given our recent pickups, there’s promise. Whether it’s Roly or not, this list should be more than capable of delivering. If only we were gifted players like the Kelly gang from GWS. Hope you get the picture.

One picture I get that even with a decent list is that we are still struggling and that other teams that are supposedly rebuilding seem to have passed us by already.

KK I think point 5 is very pertinent and well put, unless we start playing with passion and pride we stand for nothing, processes only count for anything if you buy in emotionally. Footballers are human beings and not machines.

I think the game this weekend is crucial. There is no particular reason to think we can't take it to the bummers. Sure they looked good against Adelaide, and they've got Joe Daniher, but we at least need to be competitive.

But not if it means Roly shuts us down and goes all defensive. I'd still rather lose by 10 goals playing a game that might end up winning a premiership than being safe and steady and dour and losing by 4 goals.

This weekend is indeed huge. You can't expect your team to win every week, but you're definitely entitled to expect your team to show a whole lot more than we saw against Port.

Otherwise the break-even crowd figure at the new stadium will take care of the coach, and the board.

I also believe that the Freo board/Coaching staff over estimate where we are at.
To me the rot started and the head in the sand began in the last 3rd of 2015 , where after our great start , sides worked us out and we limped in the finals and just beat a depleted Sydney side ( albeit positive effort against hawthorth).
Many of us at that time realised we had given our best shot and needed to begin a new era.
No not Freo , they flogged the same old players thru much of 2016 and ONLY played the youth because of injuries to the older players.
Than again that believed the list could be a threat in 2017 , and only after being belted and humiliated in the first 2 rounds they began in earnest. However, they tried everything possible to bring the old guard back in and it was only a repeat embarrassment against the Lions that they again began the youth.
Come to 2018 and once again the old guard get a game after believing anything is possible ( even coming last) , despite Johnno just simply cant run , D pearce cant hit the side of a barn we play 6 players over 30 and a few non achievers well into their 20's.
That is why Ross is not a list builder his ego and stubbornness wont let him get belted trying the youth. Instead he would prefer poor Johnno being humiliated with lack of pace, D pearce constantly not hitting a target when it really counts and C Sutcliffe who is still too weak ( after 8 pre seasons) to lay a really strong tackle when it matters.
Even given the Board gave Ross a long extension and there full support he wont fully commit to a Sheedy like rebuild. I have really wanted Ross to succeed, but I don't think he is capable of change or listening to different points of view. Lets hope they can improve at home.

Well if the odds are an indicator ESS $1.57 Freo $2.40, it’s going to be unpleasant. But I’ll take $2.40 because I expect a win. Fyfe had a shocker on the weekend and if he wants to be relevant again which also applies to the whole team, than there’s no option B. And like Mike said, this early in the season, Freo wouldn’t want a commercial disaster on their hands.

The crowd numbers will likely be low because it’s Easter, get along to the game if you can and bring that Freo spirit....and hope you don’t need to down the lot before half time.

Cox and Hamling in for MJ and Sutcliffe. Cerra in for DPearce. Dixon in for Kersten.
Let's give that a go.

And, those selections seem logical to me...based on form and first round performances. Young players who did not fire, ie Tucker and the like...deserve a run at it just like Sutcliffe and Sheridan have had...for years and years.
