Mushroom, what can I say! You were right and I was wrong. And I apologise for using such harsh language. Thought I was talking to one of my staff members.

But I won't give up. In fact every week I will talk this team up and up.....

Its going to be a very long year for you all.

Thought Lyon was brilliant today.

Good point about how Fyfe was used.
Again the arrogance of the freo coaching panel to assume our midfield is awesome.
Bradley hill who once could kick at hawthorn has become a shocker. I wish he simply does what he is good at, kick long and run. When he tries to kick the dinky short kicks he is dreadfully poor. If he has to think he picks the wrong option.
We simply have a poor midfield structure where we keep the ball in tight and thus allow opposition sides to remain in the contest.
Add to our fumbly midfield who need several touches to get hold of the ball , we lose the potential dominance of our ruck. How many countless times the midfield had the ball first but don’t have the footy intelligence to duck, shimmy , baulk to create space or simply fumble the ball several times.
I read that they asked the wildcats coach to help with their ball skill. It is good they recognise it , but disappointing freo can’t solve it.

Pressure was great in the first quarter but we couldnt get reward for effort. We were too fumbly, with too many hand balls and bombing it into the forward line. We were smashed on the turnover with so much space up the ground after we’d all pushed forward. I’m not giving up too early on the season as I think many will be better for the run. We really need to work on our delivery and structure in the forward line. A couple of times matera wilson and walter kicked nice flat kicks into the forward line into space to the advantage of a freo player - we just need to do it more often as even wilson was bombing it into the forward line throughout the game. Is that coaching or is that forwards not leading or telling them where to kick it? That was the great thing about Pav, he’d point to 20 metres in front and say kick it there. I think its the area tabs needs to develop is demanding the ball and where it is to be kicked.
The highlights for me was Sandi’s goal, Mcarthy’s growing confidence and the two new imports. I think we need a few tweaks to the forward play and a few changes to the team. I must admit when Pearce and Sutcliffe turn it over I groan but Sutcliffe was actually hard at the ball today and I wouldnt be surprise if he keeps his spot but Pearce has no upside and Id prefer a new younger player in the team. You can’t have two players with suspect disposal in the team.

My observation is that we use a foot ball for skills training next year and not a bloody basket ball, and where's the bloody rowing coach when we need him cause we are a long way up the creek and looks like we have lost our paddle.....

So what exactly is the new game plan? 1...2...3...4....10 coming ready or not.

No where to hide RoLy, that was the same old rubbish. Utter garbage. That's my contribution for the year,

Perhaps we should lift the skills sessions up to 20-25 minutes.

Maybe we should ask permission from the basketball coach...

Terrible, same as the last two years, no appetite to win the footy and contest harder than opposition. Midfield got smashed unable to maintain possesion or interrupt their possesion. I really couldn’t see the improved effort people are talking about.
Early still, but signs are bad hope West Coast really are as bad as last week.
Positives were Wilson and Matera promising, should be able to get them playing to our systems within 6 rounds.

Look on the bright side. A 50 point loss is a significant improvement on the 89 point shellacking they got last year.

We should beat them on their home ground by 2021.

Thanks Davo Jezza.

Fyfe grabbing at his hammy was a worrying sign.

I wasn't right, hypen. My guess happened. You, however, displeased the footy gods, which was a bad in to do. Wrong in fact. Don't do it again - they hold Freo's fate (not the practiced ineptitude at all levels).

Just watching on replay 19.05 mins remaining last qtr ball loose inside our forward fifty Brad Hill chooses to initiate body contact instead of attacking footy, Port players first intention is the footy. There is our problem right there. Why the hell we would not attack that footy and force them to react to us is beyond me.

I like to whinge. I am very good and very experienced at whingeing.
Why can't Port - who are renowned for playing a version of AFL closer to rugby - not pinged even once for illegal disposal, yet we were penalised at least four times for throwing?
This was not the reason we lost. Nor were the frequent holding frees paid to Port that Fyfe and Sandi did not receive.
Every time we were tackled a free seemed to be paid, yet this was not he case and was play on.
And play on was called almost immediately if our boys had the ball, yet they were able to slow it down and chip without even once being called to play on.
Most importantly Fyfe won't play that badly again, nor, hopefully will he be scragged out of every contest and end up as equal last in terms of marks across both teams. 42 players took more marks than Fyfe.
