Same outcome but different logic to the previous post:
I don’t think Banfield competes against the other three. He is bigger bodied and a marking option. Walters picks himself. The battle would be between Matera and Ballas. If they have to move one of those four out it will be Matera. Then it’s up to Ballas to hold his place.

I would also like to see Hughes step in to Spurrs spot, but at the moment he hasn’t shown enough this pre-season.
Kersten was terrific in his role against the other mob. Holds his spot
Matera needs to kick some goals, but his defensive work was good. He was the main reason we locked the ball in so well. Holds, just.
It’s gotta be Pearce and Sutcliffe to miss out. Unfortunate,because they both played well. Sutty to come in if B. Hill can’t get up
I’m as big a fan of Darcy as anyone. But going by his game for Peel the other day,he doesn’t look quite ready. One ruck seems to be the way teams are going these days, but I really don’t want to see Tabs filling that chop-out role. Much rather keep him at FF. (Bit of a conundrum)
Langdon & Tucker need to hold their spots. Both look very important to our future. Very closely matched at the moment although I see more upside in Tucker somehow (better than B. Hill soon)

Hughes copped an injury right at the wrong time
Nothing major but enough to set him back for the pre season games.
He played for Peel the other day and looked below his usual self. It doesn’t take much.
He’ll be back in the side shortly, I’m certain of it

It's good when you look at a team and think it'll go alright and then you realise that it can be improved with players like

S Hill
H Bennell
E Hughes
G Logue
A Cerra

Not to mention some of the young kids we picked up like Meek, Switkowski, Crowden, Giro and Jones - all look like they'll be winning a Peel premiership this season

I know that list is not how they will line up, but can someone tell me:

1. Where are they playing Blakely this season/ is it in defence or the midfield? Surely it is Spurr to start at half-back and then Blakely and Brayshaw to be in the midfield rotation?
2. If Brad Hill does not play, who would come in?
3. Would not D Pearce be selected to play his farewell game in front of the Port fans?

Maybe the plan is for Blakely to hone his defensive skills at half back and then to the midfield, ala Mr Mundy. Midfield is a certainty, eventually.

I was at Adelaide Oval for round 2 last year surrounded by Port fans, who kept booing Brad Hill because they thought he was Danyle Pearce.
