WTF is an 'ambassador' in this context? I can imagine a situation where the AFL pays players to promote the sport, but I follow the sport somewhat closely and I have never previously heard payments of this nature mentioned formally. It is, of course, absolutely no surprise at all to learn that, in the words of the league's CEO, "the highest-paid ambassadors – three of the top four, I think – are with Melbourne clubs." Of course they are. A gold star to anyone who can come up with a plausible reason why 'ambassador' payments would vary between different players.
