I still have high hopes for Apeness. If he can get his body right and get some kind of injury free run, he might just develop into the solid body up forward that we need.

While he hasn't really been that impressive so far, he's never really had a long enough injury free run to progress at this level. Given our needs, he's worth persisting with.

Thats said, Tabs in front right now but wouldn't it be nice to have both up forward. Apeness as the power forward and Tabs as the mobile tall. Thats a picture that appeals to me.

This power forward thing is all bulldust. Given Taberner's build he has to play a certain way, that doesn't mean he needs to be Apeness or Tony Lockett and break people in two.

But he needs to hit a pack and bring the ball to ground, he doesn't do it enough. I don't care how good a runner he is or whether he is a lead up forward or not. You play full forward or CHF you bring the ball to ground in front of you.

It's why he's in and out the team. I think he can be a very good player when he gets it right.

I don’t think Tabs is the archetypal hit the pack forward, like Dixon for Port, and there aren’t too many of them around. Tabs took a very strong contested mark on the grandstand wing at Lathlain yesterday and he’s asserting himself in marking contests better each game he plays. With better ball movement into the forward line he could kick 2-3 a game, and assist in others doing that around him. They’ll give him his chance and it’s up to him to now take it.

I can’t remember when Pav moved into the fwd. line permanently. At what age? But it seems like if you’re 192-195cms midfield, you’re going to spend more time up forward then you are in the middle. We’ve got the luxury of having Fyfe, who could be our KPP. Given he’s publicly come out and stated that him and Mundy will rotate, there’s no room for all of Kersten, Tabs and Cammac up forward. Just maybe we’ve got our power forward after all.

Good to hear, I must have missed it in a freeze frame moment.
Both Kirsten and CamMac should be better players for us in their second year. It seems like we will have plenty of competition for positions which is what you want. Come on Harley get back and get in, I’m busting to see him tearing up in our forward line.

smashing packs isn't very coordinated or precise - its a hit and miss strategy with a lot of collateral damage. Kinda like dropping big gravity bombs on a front when precision guided munitions are available.
Spotting up targets is better. I think we are getting to the stage where we can do that.

Hypen, I would prefer Tabs to be leading the league in "contested marks per game" than "smashing the packs and bringing the ball to ground per game".

Let him get a good run of games this year with players like Wilson, Mundy, Hamling, Walters, Pearce and Logue delivering the ball quickly to half forward and we will see what he is made of.

Noddy, the best part about those "freeze frame moments" was that they shut the commentators up for a minute or 2 ( or 5) In the sheer bliss of the moment we hardly noticed the action had frozen.
