Hi Dockerlanders,
A staff member in a food outlet on level 1 told me and the kids I was with you can purchase food with cash. It's the bars/buying alcohol you need card only. We bought pies in one place and hot chips in another (had to go to two different places, which was a bit weird) and used cash in both. Bought a few ciders and had to use card.

As for the supposed 'masses' leaving the ground all at once - i'm not sure we'll have to worry about that for a few years yet. I guess this was the long term plan - have a boring, crap team for the first few years at the new stadium to keep the crowds manageable, while the public transport gets sorted out.

Once in the stadium, could that someone just saunter over to the nicest possible vacant seat and sit there if no one else comes? Are there barriers that prevent movement from one section to another? On the bottom level it's one big loop around the ground behind the seats, so you can go anywhere. You could probably even do a lap walking along the rows of seats.

Upstairs they could probably put someone at the top of the stairs to check tickets but I would think they'd only bother doing that to the second level, or for the fancy seats. Once you're in there you can do a lap (or half a lap) around through the rows of seats.
