There's only a few days till the draft is run and based on the prior thread, there's a lot of strong opinions on who we should take at 2 and 5. I've softened on my stance regarding picking up Brander, mostly because it just doesn't look like happening and partly because I'm really starting to get excited watching Stephenson play.

He just looks to have the potential to be an incredible player and the more I watch him, the more upside he has. It helps that towards the end of the season he was getting far more mid time and as a result, involved in the play a lot more. His impact in the all star game before the grand final and amongst the best players available in the draft was phenomenal and enough for me to wave away any concerns about a heart issue. He's been given the green light in that regard and I don't think it should be a worry.

I look forward to him putting some size on and using that speed in combination with a little more power to tear sides apart, especially in a game that requires less rotations and more running power as he showed at the combine running top 10 for the time trial and yo-yo.

He's the man for our pick 5.

Ahead of him however is still Davies-Uniake. The guy has barely put a foot wrong all year and is just a ready made gun player. Big bodied and hard to take down in a tackle, he has the ability to take over Manic's role in a year or two and do it well. He even compares himself to Fyfe to give you an idea of the kind of player he wants to be and believes he plays like.

He's the best player in the draft and by the sounds of it, the Lions are looking elsewhere. Brayshaw is nowhere near LDU in terms of ability atm and looks to have limited growth so I'm still not sure how he's getting thrown into first pick contention but I sure hope the Lions take him and leave us with the best player in the draft.

Don't mess this up, get him at pick 2.
Nathan: When did you get balls?
Simon: I've always had balls you've just never seen them.
Nathan: That's the gayest thing I've ever heard.

My two wish list as well. Completely different sort of players. Grunt, strength & muscle in one. Speed, excitement & goal kicking in the other.
I think Brayshaw would be good too, but he's similar to LDU. NM were supposedly keen on Stephenson though.

Another thing to like about Stephenson, is that he's been around in that 18's system for three years. It shows he's not just had a career year and gives more credence to him carrying it off long term. The training with North thing, wasn't that like Coniglio training with us?

I'm not even fussed. The way Lloyd's gone in the last two seasons gives me complete confidence they'll pick the right two guys, whoever they may be.

Looking forward to welcoming both of them and #42 as well.

Based on a huge sample size of evidence, being that one video highlight package game, that kid with the hyphenated surname can’t kick. Straight or over 35 metres. Looks like an evasive Barlow with stiff shoulders and no thigh power and a ball drop too close to his body.

Great, we'll take him then.

Good little story on LDU in the Age this morning...

"Surfer lets draft hype wash over him. He's a midfielder, surfer and now a potential No.1 pick - meet Luke Davies-Uniacke."

The fact LDU likes surfing means WA might appeal as a destination, LDU at 2 and Stephenson at 5 i could live with that

King is the kind of guy that rubs me up the wrong way with his Foxtel analysis rubbish but I have to agree with him about the 15 midfielders in modern footy. We are a top 8 chance with the inclusion of pace and finish of LDU, Bradshaw,Fogarty or Rayner. If we can get Mundy forward and the same with Fyfe we could be anything.

It's amazing how kids who know their going to be picked up in the first round are always very laid back and relaxed.

I don't know where you got that from Mushroom, LDU nails almost every kick and rarely turns the ball over. He's also slotted some nice goals from tough positions throughout the season, showing off some very handy foot skills. The only blemish was the two behinds in that game which is unlike him.

They're also not highlight videos, it's every touch in the one game. More of a highlights video would be the AFL produced couple of touches in the article I linked or the video below.

Simon: I've always had balls you've just never seen them.

Why stop at 15 midfielders? Even Hodor suggested that he needs to sharpened his craft by being able to run with the best atheletic ruckman. It's a no brainer, LDU at 187cms and Stephenson at 189cms are the prototype mid/fwd types like Fyfe, Danger and Martin. They're match winners. We've got one in our stable, Lloydy add to that please.

There are two games in the u18s carnival (vs WA & I think VC) where I noticed Davies-Uniacke missing plenty of targets. He went on a run of them in both matches. It's not saying he's a bad kick, more so his execution and being something that might be exacerbated when you go up a couple of levels (it could also improve with a higher standard of teammate).

It seems to be more of a flip of the coin for the top 5 or 6 prospects anyways each with their pros and cons. I'd be leaning more towards Dow at that #2, if only for his pace factor and consistency.
