Mayne may not have been worth $500K/year for 4 years but he was definitely worth $400K/year for 2 years.
That is probably what we offered him initially.
Really feel that Mayne has been mistreated and unfairly assessed by the Pies.
He was supposed to be the elite defensive forward who can also act as a lead-up CHF.
If the Pies forward line looked like this for 22 games:
Elliot, Fasolo, Reid, Varcoe, de Goey and Cox/Mayne, then they might actually have seen the strengths of what Mayne can bring to a team. Instead, they had a 2017 forward line that looked like this:
Darcy Moore - so poor, moved to CHB
Cox - rarely given 2 games in a row; played 9 games
De Goey - suspended for lying - played 14 games
Fasolo - mental health issues; played 19 games
Varcoe - dislocated elbow; played 8 games
Elliot - always sooking, if not injured. played 17 of 22 games.
Reid - played 15 games, mainly in defence until late in the season.
Good luck being a defensive forward in that disaster of a forward line.
Pies should apologise to Mayne and give him a run in a 2018 fully functioning fwd line .
