Corporal Agarn
Gotta feel sorry for him. He must feel so unwelcome there. Thankfully he's got the money, but his self esteem must be very low.

So Collingwood tried to bribe us to pay some of their salary cap for a player which we were compensated for, based on that salary, and we thought about it.

Footy is full of crooks.

My takeaway is that the AFL are a bunch of gutless squibs.

I'm absolutely flabbergasted the AFL didn't want to make a ruling on the run.

There was no ruling required. You can trade players and you can pay salary of a player at another club. In other words, what the clubs were proposing within the rules.

If you don’t like ‘salary dumping’, change the rules after the trade period to prohibit it next year.

By vetoing the trade the AFL was making rules on the fly.

Club B takes a player from Club A for an eyebrow raising salary.

Club A gets compensated with an eyebrow raising draft pick.

Club B trades the player back to Club B, clearing the salary off their books.

I haven't read the entire AFL trade rules books but what happened in that scenario is that Club A just bought a draft pick. So I would hope there was an anti-corruption clause in there somewhere.

So Club B just paid $500k to lose a second round pick.

Yeah, I don’t reckon it will catch on.

If this was an attempt at rorting the system, Collingwood have shown about as much ability at that as making the 8.

Why? Is there a rule that says you have to trade back a second round draft pick? Is there a rule that says you can't reciprocate the deal the next year?

I'm not sure you understand how corruption works.

I know you like learning all the terminology from the NBA so we'll call this Draft Mining.

The compensation picks are only introduced to the system when a free agent of value swaps clubs. So say two clubs enter into an agreement to go turn about at offering generous contracts to each other's free agents. A draft pick is created as compensation.

All it costs is maybe 35% - 50% overs on a short contract, which you get the other club to pay when you swap him back.

Except Shane club A did not trade said player. Club B signed him as a free agent

I feel sorry for anyone that gets the sack, but less so where they get a huge payout. The marketplace deemed Chris wasn't up to the required standard, except in CM's case he's a million or two better off than most discarded AFL players. I hope he enjoyed his time playing AFL.

I don't believe my self esteem would be the slightest bit dented for picking up $2m from a hated club for playing only 3 games

Happy to take the (very) early retirement & be setup fot life
