TOPIC: Logue

All this draft stuff about who should go where becomes quite confusing. We took Logue at #6 but can anyone remind me where he was predicted to go before we nabbed him? were we about right or was he expected to go later?

Now if we manage to be at full strength in our back line this year we need to fit in Hamling,Ryan, Wilson, Johnson, Pearce, Spurr, Logue and Hughes. Also Sheridan and Sutcliffe-nope.

Out of those eight named I would personally see Logue as the last picked. Roly is a big fan of Spurr and I think at this stage Hughes offers more than Logue. So, is there a place for him in the midfield or forward line? Big bodied Mundy type? Has he previously played anywhere other than the backline?

Not sure but I can remind you we took him at 8.

Just had a read of a couple of articles and both had him top 12 - & both regarded him as the best KPP.
Pretty sure those taken 1-7 were mids.

From memory we had Pick 4 after the H&A season. Bizkit was into SPS in a big way and at 4, we should get him. At the time Logue I thought was our boy. It seemed Freo were confident of getting him lower down the order and during trade period swapped for Pick 7 and I think academy picks pushed us to 8. It'll be interesting to see the both careers of SPS and Logue unfold in the future. Like the S.Hill and Daniel Rich careers. I reckon we've got a winner in Hilly. As for Logue he's rolled Gold.

You really don’t like him do you corporal. He doesn’t look like the most natural footballer but I think it is worth noting that he played alot of games last year because our team is so poor and he far from disgraced himself. He had a far better season than McCarthy who was the disappointment of the year for me. He is a good kick, gets the best out of himself and was forced to punch above his weight as a 19 year old in an awful team. I have no idea whether he will make it or not but it won’t be for lack of trying- he will get the most out of himself.
As I recall he was touted as a top 15 pick but played the last half of the season in the league team for swans where he was okay but nothing sensational. He then played a couple of colts games at the end of the season where he got 35 possessions playing innthe middle. I personally think this is what swayed our recruiters to take him higher. That and his massive tank.

Not many blokes Logue’s size impact the game in their first season. He moves so fluidly it’s easy to forget he’s 193cm, which is about the same size as Hamling.

At times he looked lost, and at times he looked composed. You could say the same about almost any rookie, including SPS.

If Lyon doesn’t pick him for most of next season I’d be pretty disappointed.

We seemed to forget that Cammac missed 12 months of football at the top level. GWS drafted Cam because he kicks goals. He's second year at GWS people started to sit up and take notice. He kicked 20+ goals this year after sitting out. Crikey try not exercising after 12 months and see how you go. He'll explode in 2018.

No Goodie, he's a work in progress. i just don't think he's there yet, but as Morgan says it's only his first year.

I really like his attitude and willingness. We've got plenty of backmen already plus like Morgan I also think he gets a bit lost in the backline so was wondering how others felt about him further up the ground.

He wouldn't have to be as accountable for an opposition player, could throw that big body around and clear a few packs. At 193cms he's the size of a number midfielders going around, plus he's a pretty good kick and mark.

I remember in the early days thinking Mundy was a worry until he became one of our great midfielders. He's also one of our few midfielders that is a good mark up forward and a reliable kick for goal. So I'm wondering if this could be the future for Logue too?

Fair enough. Lyon pushed him forward for half a game fairly early in the season- round 5 or 6 maybe and you know what he actually looked pretty good. If he’d kicked straighter he would have finished with a few goals in a half of footy.

He never went forward again all year even when we were 15 goals down. Insanity.

If I was a teaching coach I would (maybe) have done the same with him as was done with Cox. ie play them out of position to get them to learn a few tricks. Cox might still become a very good backman and Log a midway player.

As someone who wasn’t completely sold on him to begin with, I had certainly come around by the end of the season.
There is no doubt he wasn’t ready to be thrown in at the deep end. He played with quite a bit of trepidation and he did look lost on quite a few occasions
But
I also felt he improved exponentially with every game he played and I am now pretty sure he will be a very good player for us for many years to come

Since when do we only play 6 in the back line?

In his first few games, he seemed to get caught between contests quite a lot. By the end of the season he seemed to have picked up the pace of the game and was backing himself to reach more aerial contests. He also wasn't shirking physical contact; in fact, I think he might even have a touch of mongrel about him. If big guys are meant to hit their straps later in their career, I think Logue is ahead of the curve.

'At times he looked lost...' Is it any surprise given the season we had, at times the whole team was setting off EPIRBS.

For those that aren't into big hair, get over it. Logue showed great poise for a first year player....he'll be a very good solid player for us into the future.
