The opening game for the AFL season is not as crucial as having GC home game sold to FREO to be played at the Craypot. Essentially that's 13 home games in 2018. The cost for memberships is 11 home games. So if the GC game was sold to Freo, I'd imagine this will reflect in our membership costs or am I reading this wrong. Another benefit is that, and I mentioned this previously, given where we finish on the ladder, we'll play at least 2 of the bottom 6 teams twice and if this happens to be the Suns, it should present us with an oppotunity to beat the Suns twice without having the dreaded travel to the Gold Coast. The AFL has and as per their policy, denied both WA clubs the opportunity to purchase away games from opposition sides due to the away team having to travel West and this tyranny of travel was seen as a disadvantage to the travelling team. Not to mention the fact that both teams do more travelling than any other AFL team in the competition.
