TOPIC: Wilson v Weller

He is backup for what we have, I would be less worried about Matera being injured, and more worried about the player he would be replacing being injured, if you get my drift.

Interesting you say that RM, I actually thought he'd be in our best 22. The time for Walters to be playing midfield is 2018. I wouldn't have thought Freo would recruit Matera as a spare.

We have plenty of talent to take the midfield and forward spots ahead of Matera. He is backup for if Balla's cops a season ending injury.

I don't think they bought him home to play for peel , He will be given every chance to play in the seniors , And if he can recapture the form he showed early this year . He will play in purple not teal

Looking at the highlight reel, Matera has a lot of raw talent at his disposal. If he can get it together on a consistent basis, he'll be a great addition to Freo's forward line.

Matera's 2017 stats from 10 games more than match and exceed Balla's from same number of appearances.

Sure he was returning from injury but at 30 we may have seen the best of him.

Think Matera will play a lot of AFL next year when you consider Weller, Crozier, Balic and Deluca all did play some time as fwds in 2017 and none remain on list.

Rayner can go into one forward pocket to challenge Grey and Matera can sit on the bench and keep Ballas honest. Along with Bennell resting forward with Fyfe and Mundy we have the ammo to score enough if the game plan is good enough.
In my 22 I have (constantly getting updated) on my desk, Matera is on the bench.

If Matera is the player some of you think, he would be with Weller setting the GCS alight. He will not set Freo alight on exposed form.

My memory is before GCS became a basket case and were being touted to tear the competition apart Matera was in the team and sat comfortably there. I haven't fact checked this so could be wrong.
I think he could be a good upgrade on either Grey or Ballantyne. Unless of course Ballantyne can turn the clock back.

The injury toll needs to be monitored closely during pre-season to ensure wins in the early rounds. The 22 listed in the article is about what I'd have for round 1. Unlikely that'll be the team but it's starting to take shape.

If Pearce is fit I'd have him in there before Logue and probably Tabener before Cox.

I don't think I've read anyone saying Matera's bound to be a champion Raglan. What is clear is that he's got a fair bit of talent and his biggest issue seems to be consistency. The Suns are full of talented but inconsistent players, hence the willingness for them to offload him.

Small forward is one of the trickier positions on the ground, particularly in a team that's struggling. There's a lot of examples where small forwards have really hit their straps in the second half of their careers (particularly at a new club, with a second chance) and gone from flake to shark before most people even notice.

Small forward is the hardest position on the ground to play if you are not a really good small forward. The sides that win flags have a couple of very good small forwards alongside a very good KPF

Jezza somehow I think that team list is significantly off the mark. That we could have so many options is good.
