Weller is a better footballer but will play in a different position (midfield). Wilson is the better small defender.
Nathan: When did you get balls?
Simon: I've always had balls you've just never seen them.
Nathan: That's the gayest thing I've ever heard.

Agree Biz I did not want Weller to go , I believe he has heaps of upside , But at least we didn't cave in and sell him out for a second rounder or two and a player we were always going to get anyway , Wilson is a very good fit for Freo and happy to see him get over the line

Yep, I'm over recruiting midfielders and trying to make them into half backs. Ryan and Wilson off half back seems very exciting. Hope it works out as well it looks.

Biz, the sides that win the big ones do it with very good, long, and accurate kicking players getting the footy out of the back half of the ground. We now have 2 of those , and it puts us in the frame for success. With the backline the way it was , Weller could play 500 games at Freo and not see flag success. I rate Wilson more valuable to our chances of said success than Weller. You yourself said what we need is a big bodied midfield player, not a speed merchant, and that is after the departure of Weller, so I think that Wilson is the better option.

Wilson and Weller have zero in common apart from the fact that their names both start with W and both changed clubs on the same day. Though I suppose Weller could give Wilson all his old purple polo shirts.

The nature of the deals were very different, and they are different types. Weller is a class player, but Wilson will become a hugely valued part of the new backline along with Ryan, Hamling etc.

Having two picks in the top 5 is an amazing position to be in. Rebuild restump rewire - bring it on.

Naw, ball skills are ball skills - what separates the good from the rest is what they do when the chips are down and someone needs to step up. Wilson does this consistently, Weller was the first to drop his head and put on his sooky face when things weren't going our way. In my mind Weller only did it once with us - during a game when we were getting pounded and he kicked a late goal (as did Tucker).

Easy to stand out when you've got a pretty face - rare to stand up and give it 110% when no one else will. That's what sets Mikey apart from everyone else.

Welcome to Freo, Nathan #2.

Well said Polly, that is the best way to judge a footy player. That's what Balla's has and fellas like Troy Cook, Dale Kickett, Pav, Grover, Johnno, Lukey Mac, Shaun Mac, and a few more I've forgotten to mention. Those are the players that will win you a flag. In our current crew, Ryan, Darcy, Blakely stand out alongside Mikey.

An aspect of this year's trade period is that we've added another two Indigenous players to our team. Well done Freo.

That goes without saying Polly. Our problem is that we assume we are going to get the best players available, and we do. (Still waiting for next year to be convinced about Matera but).

Freo now getting a few players who grew up following purple so no doubt will be a lot of pride pulling on the jumper for Wilson as well

My concern with Matera is that he's a GC product, where players are cursed by injuries. In 7 years he has not managed 22 games. 2015 was his best year with 19 games. In 101 games he's kicked 124 goals, an avg of 1.23, not great. He's arrival would see Walters playing more midfield minutes, I would've thought. The makeup of our forward line is going to be interesting.
