Good idea Raglan but I can't move the radio far enough away to get the necessary delay. To overcome that problem I also move the TV closer to me. It's hard to see the image on the mega screen when it's a few inches away but the sound synch is almost perfect.

The sample of commentary provided by Yossarian is from a match when Freo plays okay and wins by about 30 points.

WTB, get a pair of binoculars and watch the TV through the big end. That may help.

I really appreciate the solution in the link provided by Rusted On, but rather than delay the audio by a few seconds, is there a way to play the picture earlier?

There is, but Lotto and the TAB have a court injunction holding up the release of it.

Lotto and TAB need not worry too much about Freo games. Lately I've seen the outcome of our games by about half way through the second quarter.

I'm sure YOU wouldn't sneak a pre-look at the lotto draw, or the Caulfield Cup result a day early, but there are some unscrupulous people out there WTB.

Placing the radio away from the tv could work if you have a loud radio. For a 3 second delay and sound travelling around 300 m/s you put the radio about a kilometre away. Yeah, a bloody big, bloody loud radio. And turn it up to 11.

Works better if you stand by the radio, but put the tv a kilometre away.
That way (provided that it goes to 11, and therefore is louder), it will render you deaf, with the added bonus of not being able to actually see the tv from a kilometre away. Which is still a better outcome than watching a Freo game in perfect sync.
I'm going to test it out on the cricket.

Could also suggest that a "picture tells a thousand words" . ....! Much as I love ABC radio commentary, and, as much as I despise anything that comes put of the TV...- (yes , even the Great Pav and Peter "Everywhere &Too Much " Bell) - if we keep trotting out the gamestyle & skill levels we have we have, I'm not sure we need any bloody commentary Rasberry Pi assisted or not!!

Apart from the fact, that, Channel Basil has got away with these 3hr delays this year, and I'm sure they'll play that game a lot more from here on in.... So, any commentary synchronization is doomed , really....

... (but I'm really intrigued on discovering more about this rasberry pi thingo. Everyone's input on this matter has been fantastic. Thx! )...

I hate to go afoul of all the tech-heads who have an array of nifty patch-plug-fiddle solutions to Larkin's problem, but here's a front/back portrait of my trusty tranny:

An $8 Dick Smith AM/FM when new, it evolved into a Picasso model after I forgot it on the dashboard of my ute one summer's day in Northam. Funny thing is, it got stuck on the 531 AM band of the ABC's Regional station after that - you can turn the dial all you want, it's just stuck on that station. As such you get the broadcasts out of Geraldton/Kalgoorlie or Albany - depends on where you are in country WA. Most of the time I get the Geraldton broadcast - you still get Richard Fidler at 11am on weekdays, but only have 90 minutes of Geoff Hutchinson earlier (and no Belly at the crack of dawn).

I'm no geophysicist, but Geraldton is more than 11k away and you won't have to use the wrong end of your binoculars to watch the telly. The delay is in-built with this thing, powered up by 2 x AA batteries it will keep you company for a lifetime. I've seen those slick European digital things you take to the footy Larks - if you want a swap for the cricket season just let me know.

Listening to local Gero radio will drive him completely bonkers Polly. Is far worse than listening to Basil or Gerard Healy or Bruce.

This has, clearly, already occurred to me, and I find myself changing the dial to Radio National everytime the local content comes on my local 531.

Things are grim when you look forward to "RN Arts & Books" after Hutchies show finishes....

Polly's tranny is a lot shorter than I'd imagined, but the rear view looks about right.
