Brandon is a quality footballer that has had a number of injury setbacks. At his best he is intelligent, creative, quick and a very good running kick. Every club needs a player like that, not just us - if he's healthy and ready to go: great. No need to haggle and feel that you've come away with a Porsche for $10, that's stupid. Pay a fair price and welcome the kid into the side.

Interesting 2017 stats don't look a lot different to Hogans career average in kicks ,handballs ,tackles , goal average , Obviously contested marks may be different . Just saying (i think Hogan is overrated!)

Comparing most stats between different sized players, filling very different roles are not that relevant - except with forwards & their goal averages.

If Matera can maintain that average without having several of the best young forwards in the comp surrounding him - then he’ll be another trade steal for us.

I just hope they don’t do a Kirsten and play him just because we recruited him as he will probably push out Grey, I can’t see how we can play Matera, Ballas, Walters, Bennell and Grey in the same team, unless Walters goes into the midfield permanently. Even then 4x small forwards will be hard to fit in. I for one thought Grey offered great defensive pressure and his absence in the back half of the season was one of the reasons for our poor performance.

Bennell will play a high half forward role and Walters will spend time in the middle , Gray is not a true small forward imho , And his role within the team remains unsettled , And that just leaves Ballas who is a true small forward but ageing so 2019 if Matera finds his feet we have a ready made replacement , in 2018 having both Ballas and Matera in the same team could work
