Yeah remember names, but besides Prior, my point being none of them have any previous coaching experience at other clubs, something that doesn't appear to happen elsewhere.

And with all the shuffling of ass coaches that happens annually, none of these guys even crack a mention anywhere, anytime. Coaching non-entities it seems.

m.afl.com.au/news/2015-12-16/shakeup-for...s-coaching-structure

This was the "shake up" that seemed to destroy all our game plan structures.
Kirk - left
Stone - who was brought in as a stoppage specialist was moved to forward line coach,
Sumich - moved from forward line to development,
Webb & Eastaugh - became midfield coaches
Guerra and Michael Prior - defensive coaches.

Result, minor premiers to 16th in one season, Sumich tells Lyon to do more work and gets ousted at seasons end, Stone moves on this year, Freo now have no Ass coaches the have worked under a coach other than Lyon

Shakeup schmakeup. They hired two assistant coaches with no experience and then Ross left them in charge of training for the summer. Ross himself described it as negligence.

The AFL is full of past players who were good to great, but suck at coaching - head or ass.

Plenty of them still in those gigs too.

Purple kit...excepting Polly & Shane's very humorous ones; and some inciteful, brilliant ones from CA, RM, Yeti, Morgan, Pav353, DBTS, ROTV, and several other DL's, for me, your above post gets "Post of the Year".

Says it all !! Explains 2016 & 17 !

Thankyou!

So it couldn't possibly be that we have turned over most of the list in 2 years while getting games into young blokes before they were really ready and or that we had injuries and are stars got old. Or any number of other reasons why we might have slipped down a few pegs. And who knows why Roly went absent at the end of the season – just maybe he had issues he didn't want in the public realm. Stuff happens and its not necessarily anyones fault. Blaming is easy but it doesn't lead to understanding.

Without an orchestra you don't have a conductor. And without a band, no good having a lead singer. Players make coaches no ifs or buts. You get your best players injured or down on form, you're in trouble. I like to see a smaller coaching team than one that occupies all the business class seats on a trip.

Agreed Larkin, deadset easy to identify problems/apportion blame - much harder to come up with constructive solutions to those problems.

Every coach started as a rookie somewhere - so it could be argued Lyon is helping the next generation of coaches get started.

For all the criticism of our coaching group, it’s been pretty stable and no where near the turnover city plenty of other clubs are currently going through - including the mob up the road.

The next generation?? In his time there not one Fremantle ass coach has been approached by another club, and some have been there a bloody long time.
Sumich got the big A after disagreements with Roly, and Kirk and Stone left of their own accord.
Stable but going nowhere.

You wouldn't get a team coached by Alastiar Clarkson crashing to the bottom half of the table.
