Is it just my imagination or do we have the most non descript, no name coaching team in the league?

This time of year there are names popping up everywhere with who's who of ass coaches moving around, being given the ass, coming up for vacant positions,etc.

Nobody ever seems to be poached or approached at Fremantle. There are very big names at other clubs, but apart from Roly we have a bunch of what appear to be nobodies who carry no clout in AFL circles. We still haven't replaced Mark Stone who left a month or so ago. It would be nice to get someone who holds a bit of respect but that doesn't seem to happen with us.

Why is it so? Is Roly that hard to work with or what?

I have no idea whether Lyon is difficult to work with or not, but I tend to agree with you CA performances have been poor since we signed a few assistants a couple of years ago.
I would like to see some appointments in this area to get excited about.

There was a great deal of noise made when we recently picked up a couple of ex Hawks as ass coaches. Clearly the intellectual knowledge that they brought over from the Hawks hasn't had a major impact. Time to re-stump, re-plug, re-boot, re-wire, re-apply, re-built, re-recruit, re-wipe ...

What we need are assistants who are not mute. I can't recall ever seeing anyone, sitting near Ross, say anyhing. It serms that all assistants are afflicted this way in the box. Some even have a hint of terror on their faces. Gulp...

I may be repeating myself here but if your strategy in recruiting assistants is to bring them up to speed as coaches then you're not really getting value out of the appointments, you're 'investing' in much the same way that companies 'invest' in interns.

Cheap labour and the teapots are always filled. You're not getting challenged at the negotiating table, though.

If you don't have the players available the coaches aren't going to fix that overnight. Coaching isn't magic. We get obsessed about game day coaching but the real deal is long term building of skills and team capability over years.

An example of what I mean would be Houli. 4 years at Essendon and moved on. At Richmond has been and ok, up-and-down player, improving over years to play a strong 2017 and make a big contribution to the premiership. I imagine there are a few unsung assistant coaches who should get a tick for this.

As far as I can see declaring Hale and Guerra to have failed is wildly premature. It just part of the counterproductive blame game disease that afflicts teams down the order and helps keep them there.
