Best I can work out he had he played some good footy between round 3 and 12 - had a quiet game in round 13 and didn't play for the rest of the year due to (foot ?) injury but did play in the 2's round 20 with a reasonable game.

Why do people insists that getting rid of Sutcliffe/Sheriden/Crozier is actually going to be beneficial for the club. These are players in the right age group and have been under the Roly's system since being drafted. Both Sutcliffe and Sheriden are elite runners. Their influenced in the Peel team shouldn't be underestimated. Perhaps their best footy is still ahead of them, which Matera's manager also implied that of his client.

I think the knock on his game, which I've heard commentary on over a period of time, is his defensive pressure (or lack of it).

If there's one thing Lyon can do and do well, is drilling the importance and execution of defensive pressure into his playing group.

Matera must be aware of that and it's probably a key reason he wants to come to us and not the slime where so many of his family have played.

Plus he's got two of the best pressure forwards in the comp to learn from in SonSon & Ballas.

A bit to get excited about....

So what if you're an elite runner and are good value at Peel. Counts for nothing if you don't get hold of the ball.

It's when they play for Freo we're interested in and we've seen what they can deliver. If you think that's going to change after 100+ games for Sutcliffe and 60ish for Sheridan you're dreaming.

Who do they deserve a game before on our list?

Jezza, if they are elite runners, give them to Percy Cerrutty to train em up for the bloody Olympic games team. We need elite FOOTBALLERS, with ELITE SKILLS.

By the way I have always been a fan of Crozier, would not like to see him dumped.

Premierships are won with 26-30 players of your best. If you've got your core of 24-26 players used in a season, your chances of winning the premiership improves. Depth, depth, depth not dissimilar to location, location, location. I think both Sutcliffe and Sheriden fits that bill.

I'd rather see Duman elevated onto the main list after the few times I've seen him play for Peel - including the WAFL GF yesterday. Needs to put some weight on but a few pre-seasons in the gym should sort that out.

Take your pick of Sheridan and Sutcliffe to go in place of him, but the most errors I saw committed yesterday (being pushed off the ball, hand balling behind the running teammate, not getting the ball onto boot or hand in tight, etc) were by the higher draft pick - Sheridan. And then there was that last 10 mins of the PF against the Hawks...

Seeing how Sheridan went in the first round (14) and Sutcliffe in the fourth round (71) in the 2011 draft - sorry Tommy, but times up at Freo....

Depth pfft. They showed this year that when they were brought into the side they were not able to influence any game. They really don't have one area of strength besides being able to run a lot. A lot like Masten, but even he gets the ball double the amount that they do.

Depth also means being good enough. If we wanted depth why did we get rid of Barlow and De Boer? Both of them are far better than S & S in a number of facets of the game. There are plenty of WAFL players who are as good or if not better than them, let alone, SANFL or VFL.
