Ricco Im going on a limb here but if that thug Brian Lake hadn't taken out Son son in our 2013 GF we would have won. Old wounds but M Walters is an all class A grader

I'd take Walters over Cyril any day.

Don't get me wrong, Cyril is good, just not great

Despite what Bwuce would have you believe.

I'm always a bit suss of articles written by anonymous journos, Monty, and that's probably because if you scratch the surface it doesn't quite stack up.

Regardless of how Adelaide got some of their players in, Jenkins was taken at pick 13 (1st round) by the Peptides, Jacobs No. 1 in the rookie draft and Eddie Betts pick no.3 in the PSD by Carltank. Brad Crouch was via a mini-draft deal with GWS and would have likely been a top 10 if not top 5 pick - similar to O'Meara & Hogan - in a 'normal' draft.

Granted, they have done well with the rookie & pre-season drafts but we've been pretty successful in that space too (Sandi, AAJohnno, Duffman, Creepy, DeBoer, Barlow, Spurr). We, however, made a GF without much high end (draft) talent and from memory, only Pav & S.Hill were top 10 draft picks.

But for all their drafting 'success' the Crows have not won anything yet (McClelland Trophies in 2005 & 17 notwithstanding) or even played in a GF since 1998.

And for every Hugh Greenwood there's a Craig Moller. So luck plays a part too.

Don't get me wrong, they're a strong team and after the tragedy of losing their coach the way they did - most (including me) wouldn't begrudge them climbing the mountain in Walsh's honour. Particularly if it's at the expense of 9thmond.

But bear in mind they've only ever had one Prelim in Adelaide - and they lost that to Wet Toast in 2006.

You stole my thunder Jason. That article was completely misleading for the reasons you mentioned. Never let the truth get in the way of a good story!

Surely you're not trying to compare the two just on this season's output Alvin? Wonder why you haven't put up previous seasons?
AA isn't everything we know(think NoStat)and although age and injury might be catching up with him, but Rioli is and always has been all class. He's been AA how many times?
Can't think of a more dangerous small forward who has every skill covered other than Betts.

I reckon give them credit where it's due. They've traded rather nicely.

Fair call Ricco and I categorically withdraw my accusation that you are a Toilet supporter.

I've been a seated member since 2004 and will continue to support the team in that capacity for as long as I can - regardless of the coach, game plan, win/loss ratios or players.

IMHO, and I've said this before, the AFL made the decision a few years ago to 'kill off' defensive-based game plans by limiting rotations. Problem for teams like us & Sydney - we had built lists that required elite endurance and pressure skills. Out and out pace, elite skills, etc weren't necessarily the highest priority and we made a GF with a 'blue collar' list. Sydney we're able to change tack much quicker than us thanks to COLA.

Over the past few years we've recruited players more suited to the modern run and gun style of play. I disagree with your assessment of Langdon as he played an absolute blinder in Peel's flag victory last year and was maybe unlucky to miss out on the Simpson Medal. He also has genuine pace and his work off half-back played a big part in our golden run earlier this season.

We also doubled our wins this season from the horror that was 2016 - playing a much younger group of players in the process.

I also don't subscribe to the view that simply turfing the best, most professional & successful coach in our history will solve all, or even some of, our problems.

But we can all agree to disagree, if it comes to it.

Jason, the glass will always be the wrong size glass, while Bond is doing the filling.

CA & co, if Walters was treated the same as Betts and Cyril by the umpires, and given the same profile boosting to influence said umpire treatment, we would have 1c flag in the bag (2013) and he would be rated where he belongs. Along with Sandi, their treatment by umpires is a big part of the "luck and lack of luck" decisions Freo cop.

Ricco, anyone who does not rate S Hill, Walters, Blakely and Bennell as A graders leaves themselves open to accusations of infidelity.

I love Walters - he is an awesome player, but the truth is he does play for free kicks some times (at least once every game). He would be wise to eradicate that from his game. I don't care what other players do or do not get away with. I do care what Walters does and he can control his own style of play if he wants to (and he should).

Interesting concept - how does that apply to the Duckwoods (all of them) & Shoeeey, to name a few, who predicate their entire playing style on playing for free kicks?

Pretty sure the Duckwoods (at least the Joel variety) and Shoeeey are rated by most observers as greats of the modern game.

Must have something to do with the colour of the jumper they wear....

Adelaide has done well to get where they are without top 10 picks, but as previously mentioned it's a little misleading with Tex and Crouch - two players who likely would have been picked in the top 10 - sneaking in the back door.

If you think back to Freo's 2013 GF team, if memory serves we only had two top 10 drafted players (Pav who was 86 years old by that time, and Stephen Hill). Most of the team was late-round draft picks or rookies.

I know Sellwood is rated as one of the greats but Shuey in the same category? I know slime supporters who think he's good but never mentioned as one of even their great players, let alone amongst all AFL teams.
Once again, a regular AA representative against someone who has never been one.

Adelaide seem to have a persistent strategy of picking bigger players. These guys take longer to develop and come cheaper.

The problem is that this strategy seems to fail at the last hurdle. Like it works reasonably well all year then you get outrun in the finals.
