If this is even a possibility, then we should go for it. Trying to extract Hogan from Melbourne, in isolation, would cost us at least another draft pick and/or player of some quality (e.g. Crozier, Balic) as well as pick 5.
As Melbourne are desperate to get Lever from Adelaide - our pick 5 via Adelaide will get the job done.
That now means we can trade a few players for picks & hopefully get a 2nd rounder for Balic as well.
Like the effective trading of Mayne for B.Hill last year - this would be a huge win for us and gives us the power forward we've been desperate for. Better still, unlike a young draftee - Hogan'll be capable of kicking 80+ goals a season from game 1.
However, if we are indeed into B.Matera (and Menzel) and we've just re-signed Ballas - I fear some of Crozier, Grey, Suban & Sutcliffe will not be offered a new contract. The only I'd really hate to see leave is Grey and I also think Suban has done enough to warrant a new deal, IMHO.
And just to head off Biz over the Mayne/B.Hill trade - last season's pick 23 was used on Alex Witherden by BrisVegs. Now granted this kid shows a bit of promise but I'd argue we've got the half-back flank position sorted with the likes of Ryan and Nyhuis.
